I hard pruned my tomato plants. I feel like a terrible person. I hate cutting off perfectly good branches. But as it says in John 15, pruning is a good thing. Just look at those little green tomatoes coming along. They needed some space to breathe.
Happy Canada Day! I'm pretty sad there will be no fireworks in Seeleys Bay tonight, but there's always next year. Stop by for some salad. Or if you need some meat to grill, call or text and I can set you up this afternoon.
Fresh picked leaf lettuce. Self serve at 184 Sweets Corners Rd Lyndhurst. $3/bag or 2 bags for $5. While supplies last. Each bag is 4oz which is approximately 3 servings of lettuce once it is shredded. Two bags will make a generous salad for a family.
Grazing to heal instead of harm the environment. The key is to keep the animals in a small space for a short time so they eat all types of forages, not just those they think are tastiest. Then they get moved to the next section. This allows manure to be concentrated into the small area to effectively recycle.
I made homemade corn dogs on Saturday. I didn't have sticks, so we just did without those. Paired with some fresh lettuce, they were awesome. Recipe is right here: https://thebakermama.com/recipes/baked-corn-dogs/ and made enough for 10 hotdogs.
Just chilling in the shade. Beef it's what's for dinner! But not this one lol.
Hopefully this is the last bale of hay that I have to feed my beef heifers before they go out on pasture. We're updating a fence before they go out, and it's been a slow process.
Rabbit sausage and salad grown by yours truly and asparagus from Mensen Farm. Great dinner tonight.
This looks good.
Still some left if you haven't had time to start your garden, or if you want to expand it. Cash or e-transfer accepted.
Useful information.
Spinach, radishes and arugula available this week
Tomato plants will be available starting tomorrow. I have a bunch of different varieties. I will post some pics and a list of types tomorrow
Without the packing plants, it would be very difficult for farmers to get their food to the people. Because most people these days lack the skills needed to process meat (and even fruits and vegetables) at home, these plant workers fill a major need in society.
Sign stakes will be up at the roadside stand tomorrow. Bags are grouped and somewhat labelled, but I know a couple people have been confused about what type of compost they were getting. This should help. Bags are $5/each regardless of type. Still accepting e-transfer or cash.
The quality control apprentice has graded this load of sheep manure bags and it's ready for sale.
Treena quality control checks most bags of compost before they are cleared for sale. Come get yours this weekend, or later this month so your garden is ready for planting time. We have a self serve stand this year.
I'm ready for this! Can't wait for garden fresh vegetables. Let me know what your favorite salad ingredient is in the comments below...
The ice is coming off the boats where I work my 9-5, and the snow is almost gone from my cold frames. Lettuce planting starts soon!
Learn cake decorating! More classes available soon. Visit my website www.firelightfare.com/classes for more info and dates! I'm also pleased to announce that my business has joined the Lyndhurst Seeley's Bay Chamber of Commerce and I'm excited to work together with other businesses in the community to support and promote our villages.
Couple of new things we have been trying. Homemade bagels, and homemade pizza pockets. The pizza pockets were made with Rabbit Sausage and Salsa that we canned in the summer.
Here's a couple of rustic barn board stars ready for a customer order. If you'd like some for yourself, just let me know.
If we were to start offering some value added products, ie frozen dinners, would you be interested? If so, what would you like to see us offer? I'm researching some commercial kitchen rental options to see if something like this would be possible.
Working on some hexagonal floating shelves for a customer. They look pretty interesting.
Our geese out for a winter stroll.
Would you like to learn how to make grapevine wreaths with virtually no tools? I'm offering classes on December 1st and 15th where you will get to learn how to wind grapevine and get it to hold together with no wires or string. Then we will be letting everyone express their own creativity by decorating their wreath into an adorable snowman! Cost is $35/person for the class and all materials are provided. I'm also working on better hats so your snowman can be a lot classier than mine! I have morning and afternoon classes available each day so message me for details.
Black Friday Specials: Quail eggs $1/dozen Hamburger 3 packages for $15 (packs are a little over 1lb each)

This week's Special: two packs of hamburger and three heirloom slicing tomatoes for $15.
So unfortunately I didn't get a chance to take a picture of this week's special, but it's two pounds of lean hamburger, and two large heirloom slicing tomatoes.
Last week's dinner special was a sirloin steak, fresh picked snap beans, and a pint of cherry tomatoes. Tomorrow we'll be posting this week's special. Don't forget to like our page so you can find out what we have going on.
Our rhubarb is still going strong. It would be perfect paired with some fresh picked strawberries.
