There are now nine active cases of COVID-19 in Jasper, an increase of six over the weekend. With nine cases Jasper remains on 'Open' status. Increased measures/restrictions are in place for areas on 'Enhanced' status - areas with at least 10 active cases and a rate of over 50 active cases per 100,000 population are considered above threshold.... For confidentiality reasons, Alberta Health does not provide any information about patients, including if the case is from a known exposure or community spread. One of Jasper's recovered cases has been removed from the map and case total. Alberta Health has previously said that changes in the map can occur when new information is obtained about a patient’s home address. A dedicated group organized a bottle drive for their fundraising effort to help victims of the typhoons in the Philippines at the end of October and November. Money has also been raised from monetary donations, a raffle, food sales and bread sales.

Icefields Parkway closure Beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, Highway 93 (the Icefields Parkway) will be intermittently closed for avalanche control work from just south of the Icefields Centre (112km south of Jasper) to Saskatchewan River Crossing (152km south of Jasper). Delays of up to two hours should be expected. The Icefields Parkway is expected to fully reopen Wednesday evening after control work is completed.... From Jasper National Park

Starting today, September 21, Parks Canada will undertake remedial work on a section of Highway 16, 10 km east of the Jasper townsite. The section of highway da...maged by flooding earlier this summer will be repaved. Work is expected to be completed Friday, September 25, 2020, weather permitting. Motorists can expect single-lane alternating traffic all day. Speed reductions to 50 km/h can be expected in work zones with traffic control personnel on-site. Be prepared to stop. Last fall, at least seven different black bears fed on fruit trees in the Jasper townsite - and two had to be destroyed because they became food conditioned within the town and posed a risk to the public. Fruit trees are one of the last remaining sources of bear attractants in the townsite, and Parks Canada is urging residents to pick all fruits as soon as they're ripe, or remove their fruit trees.
