Born and raised near Bear River, Ray Sanford started his career drawing scenes of the tidal village and wildlife sketches from the local area. Although already self-taught, he enrolled in a course of commercial art prior to studying fine art under well-known Halifax artist, John Cook. He also studied under artist, Alan Wylie, from Scotland and for a brief time, studied at NSCAD as well. Rays quiet and often rowdy seascapes show his love for the ocean. His passion for nature ...is evident in the many landscapes from days spent in the woods, in fields and by the streams of his native Nova Scotia home. We have a wonderful story to share for #ThrowbackThursday and it couldnt be more fitting for the 40th Anniversary this year! The Flight received a message this week from a New Brunswick resident, Sarah, who participated in an online estate auction containing various art collections. Sarah won her bid on a box containing numerous items and one of the treasures inside was a Ruddy Duck by Rob Buckland Nicks from 1978! Its one of Robs earliest creations of Birds on Stone. Suc...h a remarkable find! A-MAZING! Sarah, being an artist herself, often wonders what has happened to her early works and knew how heartwarming it would be for Rob to hear the story.
