Dogs and cats who are raw fed naturally drink less water than a kibble fed pet, but that is because they are getting their water from the natural occurring moisture in the food. It is stressful on the body and chronically dehydrating to the kidneys, so dogs and cats on kibble tend to be much more thirsty than raw fed dogs. As well, commercially prod...uced kibble and canned pet food are often higher in sugars and sodium which can decrease internal hydration levels leaving your pet needing more water. While in general it is normal for them to significantly cut back on their drinking when making the switch to raw, it is important to note that your pets water intake can be a sign of many different health issues, whether it be drinking too much, or too little.
