FULL INTERVIEW: RISING star Dave Bawa recently added to his steady... stream of acclaimed songs with his latest re-lease Addiction. Perhaps his best song so far, it cleverly combines an English language r’n’b vibe with a subtle Punjabi lyrical flow. Eastern Eye caught up with the singer/songwriter to talk about Addiction and his future plans. Tell us about your latest single? Addiction, in my eyes, is very much a tradi-tional r’n’b love song, which you don’t seem to hear much in today’s day and age. Al-though it has an old school style, we are presenting it in a modern way with the musical accompaniment provided by Kal-M. How does this song compare to others you have done? I would say that this song is really opening the door for my fans to hear what kind of direction my sound is headed in. I have al-ways been a huge fan of bhangra and Bollywood music, but have been just as big a fan of r’n’b and soul, and I feel this song marries those two flavours very well. What was the biggest challenge of putting the track together? It has been the same as always, which is delivering fresh lyrical content, fresh compositions and of course, finding that perfect balance of Punjabi and English. What has the response to it been like? The response has been nothing short of tremendous. I feel with every track I have released, be it Aish, Sideman or now Addiction, my music and I are being exposed to a newer, broader audience each time. What can we expect next from you? I have one more single coming up, produced by Harj Nagra. It is part of the journey toward my upcoming studio album entitled Unit 404, which will have 11 tracks, all produced by the one and only Rishi Rich. Who would your dream collaboration be with? Well, like I said, I love Bhangra, Bollywood, r’n’b and soul, so I have lots of dreams and aspirations to work with different artists and producers. Currently I am very stuck on working with Mukhtar Sahota, and I like to mention that as often as possible, so if he is reading or listening, he knows. In the near future you will see lots of cool collaborations in the world market that I am working on. What is the biggest lesson the music industry has taught you? Patience. Enough said. Why should we pick up the new single? Because it’s a fresh and very different sound that I feel is missing in today’s industry. Finally, why do you love music so much? Very tough question, but I would say there is no com-parison to how you can ex-press how you feel the way you can through music.
