Actors, read this!

Note to "readers" on self-tapes: There is no need to speed-read the lines. Your role on the self-tape is important. You're not acting, and shouldn't act, but... just read the lines in a normal tone, at a normal pace. I'm seeing this a lot lately, and not just on at-home self-tapes. It's very distracting to not be able to understand what the reader is saying, or to have it be at an accelerated pace. (Not a criticism; just a note ) See more

And this ... I get to post finally, because her first episode of Wynonna Earp is airing tonight, right now! ... Savannah Basley <3 "Cleo (Savannah Basley) seems like she's going to be a real pain in the ass. We still don't know where she came from, but Nicole explains that she waltzed into Purgatory while everyone was MIA, named herself the town magistrate, and elected her own sheriff. She's funny, a bit off her rocker, and has it out for Wynonna's family for some yet-unknown reason. "What does an Earp know about keeping their word, huh?" she asks the gunslinger as she ties her up for monster chow. "This is hereditary, daughter of Earps," she later comments. It seems like Cleo might be this season's Big Bad, rather than Valdez or Eve, but it's still too early to tell."

And the incredibly beautiful and talented Savannah Basley has kicked it out of the park again ;) Details are confidential, but 8 episodes in the first season, and a subsequent three-season option ... I have been privileged to represent this young woman since her graduation from Humber, and she is a phenomenon.

ACTORS ... and I'm not saying "all Actors" ;) ... but many ACTORS. You need, absolutely need now to educate yourself about self-tape, Zoom auditions and recalls. You're not going to be able to afford to, or sometimes have enough time, to get your tape "professionally done". Most Smart Phones are capable of recording your self-tape and giving you a great resolution. But you need a tripod, and you need good lighting. These are expenses, I understand, but every business has e...xpenses, and you're a business, not just an artist. Also, please take tutorials, whatever you need to do, to learn how to efficiently use DropBox, WeTransfer, Vimeo (file must be downloadable). Do not post your audition on YouTube, unless casting has specifically requested you to do so. Virtually always casting requires a downloadable file, of a manageable size. Which brings us to the next point - "manageable size". Far too often, I receive self-tapes that are 118 MB. This is too big. Let alone the ones that 1.8 GB. Too big. Casting doesn't want to download it, I don't want to download it, production doesn't want to download it. No matter what size your file is recorded in, there are wonderful utilities out there that can reduce the file size, without compressing it into a zip!!! that requires unpacking. No to zip files. HandBrake is a wonderful program for this. Takes your huge .mov file of 1.8 GB and reduces it to 70 MB, which is still huge, but conversely takes a 70 MB file and reduces it to 18 MB. You get the drift, right? YOU MUST LEARN THESE PROGRAMS. YOUR AGENTS CANNOT DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU! I am more than happy to tie your scenes together into the order that casting wants, slate at the beginning or end, or separate file. And for goodness' sake, a slate is always required - name, height, location. As you will see many casting directors posting, it is going to be a while before in-person auditions happen. In-person recalls will happen sooner, but first round is going to be done virtually for the foreseeable future.
