Todays Black History Moment: The Courage of Women Harriet Tubman 1822-1913 Dubbed, Black Moses, she was born into slavery and all of the cruelty associated with... that life being beaten, whipped and degraded to the point where freedom was the only choice for this brave woman, who ecaped to Pennyslvania, but kept coming back for her family, guiding them through the Underground Railroad. Perhaps the greatest of all conductors, she then went to work for the Union side during the war as a nurse, cook and then eventually a spy, and a scout. She was the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war, when she guided the raid at Combahee Ferry, which liberated more than 700 enslaved people. She is a true hero, whose courage and resilience led hundrds of people to freedom.
Today’s Black History message It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. Abolitionist Frederick Douglass Frederick Douglass was an escap...ed slave who became a prominent activist, author and public speaker. He became a leader in the abolitionist movement, which sought to end the practice of slavery, before and during the Civil War. After that conflict and the Emancipation Proclamation of 1862, he continued to push for equality and human rights until his death in 1895. The future of human relationships lies with our children. Make sure they learn the true history of the world.
