I’ll just leave this right here. What would happen if even 1/3 of all planned ‘cause you’re due inductions were flat out refused? Just simply, No. Let’s see this how this plays out. Normal pregnancies go past 39 or 40 weeks all the time. That’s the *norm* actually.... Let’s take this a step further - what about establishing induction boundaries in your second trimester? You can say as long as we have no health concerns or major changes, I don’t want to discuss induction at all. Do you know why induction could be offered to you? Do you know the reasons why induction can’t be forced on you? Let me know what you think below I’m not anti-induction either + I help people plan dignified induction experiences if that’s what they want What I am here to do is stop 1st time parents getting hustled into this BS #bridgertonmeme #pregnancymeme #mememonday #birthtrauma #momtobe2021 #parenttobe #mondaymorning #pregnantandempowered #motherhoodrising #honestmotherhood #millennialmom #pregnantblogger #positivepregnancy #pregnantandperfect #pregnantchicken #babyontheway #expecting #pregnancyannouncementideas #expectingparents #expectingababy #expectingmoms #pregnantandfit #pregnantintoronto #pregnantinottawa #workinmoms #pregnantandhappy #pregnantandbeautiful #prenatalclass #doula #pregnancytips See more

Nurse: Ok. It’s time to check your dilation. Just relax. I know it’s not fun but we have to check. What you’re thinking: I really don’t want to move. I really don’t want her hand inside of me right now. The last one hurt. I don’t want one. What you say: Do I really need one right now?... Nurse: We can wait a bit, but yes, we need to know how you’re progressing. How are we going to know when to get ready to meet your baby?! What you’re thinking: I don’t want this right now. But I’m getting tired. I want to meet my baby. I guess right now is fine. What you say: *climbing into bed* Ok. Let’s just do it now. Throughout all of that all you ever had to say was NO. But staff abused the power of their position and trust to manipulate you into meeting their needs. They felt uneasy about any narrative other than obtaining the subjective measurements of your cervical dilation. But they didn’t feel uneasy about directly violating their practice standards (did you know that trying to manipulate/your choice is considered patient abuse + a very big issue with their governing body). It may not a big deal with their employer (hospital) but the CNO cares. How can you do something about this behaviour in the moment? You say: I want it documented in my chart that I declined a cervical check and you attempted to coerce me into accepting it. No is all you need to say. But I want it documented in my chart speaks their language + will grab attention. You’ve got more ammo too. Need some help to find the courage to advocate for yourself like this in your pregnancy and birth? Book a Connection Consult in my bio+ let’s get started. See more

What are your core values? 2020 was a lot of learning how to unlearn. And then figuring out how to rebuild in a better way. ... While I have many passions it boils down to this: you matter here just because you are you / no need to explain shit true inclusive, supportive, safe, difference-celebrating care happens here / can’t stop won’t stop until my community feels free of limitations the power of story will change the world / space to share + space to dissect + space to create What core values do you carry in life? I love this picture. @illumacreative captured my ever-clever spirit. Don’t mistake the sparkle in my eyes as naive curiosity. ... They’re sparks from the smouldering embers in the pit of my soul. I’m here to fuck shit up. The word I chose to lead me in 2020 was DARING. It means to be audaciously bold. 2020 has been a lot of things. So, Christmas Eve of 2020 being spent in a hotel because our water is frozen isn’t a big shock. It is what it is. And Santa still knows where to find The Empire of Edwards no matter where we are! Merry Christmas to those celebrating. And happy holidays to everyone doing their best to squeeze some joy out of this rather tough season. See more

She said this to me in response to a small project on practice standards in reproductive health care. My response was that I really hoped it didn’t. And I can honestly say, my respect for pursuing any type of birth that has the potential to meet your needs has only grown exponentially since that day. I’ve witnessed a uterine rupture in a resource poor environment. And I still believe anyone should have the choice to pursue it if they want. As a nursing s...tudent I learned quickly that bias + fear drove most decisions in healthcare. I had phenomenal nursing professors. I had skilled + passionate clinical instructors. But I recognized that people really feared getting into trouble + opted to push patients into a direction that made them comfortable versus holding space for people to make their own choices. I knew in that moment my place wasn’t working within the system. My place was dismantling it from the outside. By enlightening *you* to: the ins and outs of your health care rights; the actual power you have when it comes to making decisions + having them respected; and the options for safe, stigma-free support you need. Let’s talk. I have 10 free Connection Cinsult spaces open between now and the New Year. Leave an emoji in the comments that best describes how you’re feeling about your birth - I’ll send you a DM to schedule a 1:1 call! You’re not alone in having to figure out what you can actually do when it comes to your birth. And you’re not alone in figuring out what should have happened either. #postpartum #newmomlife #newmomstruggles #bellybirth #vbac #birthtrauma

This is how we exist as a supportive community. Hi. There are so many new faces here! What better time for little intro to who I am, what I do, and why I do it. My name is Emily. I’m a Registered Nurse. I’m a Full Spectrum Doula [virtual]. I am a fierce voice for changing the way we treat each other, especially in healthcare. ... You’ll hear me talking about topics like: abortion access the defund movement radical empathy We are here for each other. Let’s do everything we can to make it a safer + more accessible place for everyone ! One way to do that is advocating for accessible places for people to use the toilet. Many communities have reduced access to indoor spaces related to COVID but it also is common practice due to community members who may use drugs in public washrooms. We don’t need to limit public washroom access because they may be used by people who use drugs. Guess what? People who use drugs also have basic human functions that preferably need a toilet. People who don’t have running water or shelter need toilets. But, we can always be prepared by ensuring there is a safe sharps receptacle, add signs, and carry on with our lives. Just a friendly reminder that our world is made up of a lot of different people. And as community leaders and members we have a duty to create safe spaces for everyone who lives here. #harmreduction #fullspectrumcare #fridayintroductions #safercommunities #fullspectrumdoula See more

I had a lovely Connection Consult a little while ago. We talked about the pressures and influences on *why* we feel a med-free/natural birth is the best choice. And then we laughed. ... Your parenthood destiny isn’t predetermined by how you give birth. But we sure set up our expectations of birth based on that concept. We assemble the perfect birth - a birth ideal - in our minds. It is often full of snippets from others. Including, but not limited to: NO induction NO epidural NO c-section Avoiding interventions doesn’t make you a better parent. Having your needs met, your voice heard, and your dignity respected allows you to enter parenthood WHOLE. Being whole helps when it comes to parenting. Want to figure out how to smash your birth ideal + actually enter parenthood ready for it? Or sort out the disappointment around not meeting the birth expectations you had set for yourself?
