Nadi Downs Nadi Downz is a Calgary R&B artist. Nadi has been performing for as long as she can remember, which she attributes to growing up in a musical family. She started singing at age 4 and regularly performed in plays in school. She is no stranger to singing live at musical venues across our city and beyond. She has lent her incredible voice to a number of bands over the years - most recently the Supersonic Hearts. Swipe to see her performing with the band. She was p...reviously a member of the band USD, as well as PowerHouze, which was awarded the Obsidian Band of the Year twice. Some of Nadi’s musical influences include Faith Evans, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Michael and Janet Jackson, Aaliyah and Stevie Wonder. Nadi hasn’t let COVID-19 stop her from performing. Over the summer she regularly sang on Stephen Avenue and 17th Avenue, belting out vocals with her pal Jameel on guitar. While performing at venues has been strange - wearing a mask and even singing in a box - it won't keep her from her passion. Nadi recently dropped a new song, Lose Control featuring oozeela. I wanted to try an Afrobeat kind of tune, Nadi explains. As soon as I heard the beat, the writing came super easy. My friend oozeela from Edmonton came to mind to do a verse and it all came together very nicely. Listen to the track, linked in our bio and watch out for the video to be released. She also collaborated on the track Alone with DJ Kav and Kay L. When she’s not performing, Nadi is kicking butt as a Reggaeton fitness instructor, and enjoys being a Mom to her three kids. Meet Daria Purley! Daria is a versatile Calgary singer-songwriter and performing artist. She was born in Siberia, and remains strongly connected with her Ukrainian and Turkmenian roots. Daria dabbles in a variety of music genres including pop, rock, EDM and rap. She began singing in grade 6 when she took lessons as an extracurricular activity, as well as to help her learn English, and quickly discovered her love for music. I have a passion for song writing which has always... been therapeutic for me, and I’m constantly trying to write, record and perform, she says. Growing up, Daria was heavily influenced by western music, listening to classic rock and R&B legends including Queen, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, CCR, Lauryn Hill and Amy Winehouse. More recently she’s been tuning into contemporary rock female artists including PJ Harvey, Chelsea Wolfe and Emma Ruth Rundle. Daria recently released this music video for her enigmatic song FORFEIT which was a way for her to take a chance with the sultry R&B genre and explore her vulnerable side. Daria also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, as well as a Master’s Degree in Biotechnologies from the University of Calgary. She is the CEO of an innovative diagnostic company called Creative Protein Solutions. My life consists of balancing these two somewhat different sides of my life, and trying to have them complement each other. Did you know that The GRAND was once home to an indoor golf driving range? It’s true! After Cineplex Odeon chose not to renew its lease in 1999, The GRAND was converted into the Player’s Grand Golf Centre - an executive indoor golf dome and virtual driving range! The golf centre swung into operation in 2001, and operated in the space for roughly 2 years ... The centre included 9 stalls, a net, a putting green, 5 golf simulators and golf club storage.
