Sorry, I apologize, I have been lax! Today's songwriting challenge is to write a song for a movie, or a soundtrack. This might have been one of my favourite challenges I have made for myself, I set parameters to meet (nothing longer than 2 min, no more than 4 instruments) and I think I had a month to do 12 songs.... So fun. The movie does not have to be real, you can create the premise, or make a song for an existing movie.

JAM DAY! We are continuing our social distance and still on this songwriting challenge! This week's challenge is to write a song with either a) a chord you have never used, or, b) a chord progression you have never used. Thanks so much to everyone who has been creating all their amazing tunes! Hopefully we all have some stuff to jam with after this is all done.

These songwriting challenges have been REALLY AMAZING!! I am really inspired by what everyone is making. This week's songwriting challenge is to write a song in a genre that you have never written in. I have been stewing over this one because I have played in latin bands, metal bands, country bands, swing bands, etc.... I hope that you're having fun making this, I am really enjoying everyone's creations. I try to make a post to share with the community on Wednesdays.

Sorry about the delay! This week's songwriting challenge is to write a HIT SONG. Use those cliches, steal chord changes, do whatever you think you have to. When Kurt Cobain wrote "Smells like Teen Spirit" he knew that he had something. Paul McCartney said that him and John Lennon would say that "this one would buy us a pool". Make a HIT. Whatever that means to you - maybe that just means create the best song possible. Post it here and I will do my best to share it around.

Jam day and that means its time to post your doo-wop song (and stay home) so we can hear it, it also means a new songwriting challenge! Today's songwriting challenge is write us a country song, but this has a twist. The song must be an anti-corona song - like corona broke your heart, stole your truck, took your girlfriend/boyfriend. Remember STAY AWAY and know that I miss seeing your face!! You might be bored as heck but here at the Greenhill Jam we're devising solutions! I (Tynan here) have been mulling in my mind what to do and I have devised a series of songwriting challenges while we're all stuck in our homes, isolated (for the foreseeable future). This week's songwriting challenge is to write a doo-wop song, one of those 50's/60's love ballads and post it on the GH jam page...Youtube it, Soundcloud it, Reverbnation it - whatever your platform is post it so we can share in it. I know its a day early for the jam but this is the heads up, try and have it posted by next Wednesday (April 1st)...

The Greenhill is obviously complying with Alberta Health's mandate, that means NO JAM today or tonight! Stay healthy out there and we will keep you posted to when we will start up again.

I had great success playing a Slayer tune as a jazz inspired number the other day. What madness can you concoct? Metallica Merengue? Country Clave? Red Hot Chili Peppers Rhapsody? Oh man, there is love in the air! Today's jam challenge was an easy one, VALENTINES! Now, we're looking for songs with valentines in the lyrics, title, or band name (I am thinking maybe My Bloody Valentine). The afternoon jam is 2-5 and the evening jam is 9 till late. OH BABY ITS WEDNESDAY!!! Today is songs with Kansas in them, or bands with Kansas, OR DOUBLE YOUR JAM POINTS by replacing Kansas with Missouri, or visa versa. 1980's all over again at the GH JAM!!! IT IS WEDNESDAY.... Sorry to yell, I got excited. I made it the 80s just because I want to play "Break my Stride" its 80's jam challenge.
