The Hardwood Tree

I took a few minutes today to hang our horse name plates on the stalls. I made these live edge name plates with our black cherry kiln dried lumber. I do like how they turned out ..., and now all our horses will know which stall belongs to them ... Can you guess why we added Whose to 5 month old Rebelle’s name plate?

I did get a lot down today but I didn’t get the horse name plates hung in their stalls ... that will be priority one tomorrow :)

Today I am working on an island top that was ordered before Christmas. The colours are so nice, I decided to make a few cutting boards for the store ... they will look even nicer once I finish them with food safe oil :)

I am working on a few orders , trying to get up to date so I can hit the dreaded paperwork But, I decided to take a bit of time today to make these black cherry horse name plates .... I don’t want my babies to get confused and go into the wrong stalls jlol. I will put them up this weekend and will post some photos with the horses .... gotta warn you, my horses are beautiful!!!

Our barn is just about finished! A huge thank you to my son James, who milled every one of the boards for the barn and my son David who followed Rob’s directions and built the floor and walls exactly as planned. Also, thank you to Peter Spicer of Seven Gulches for supplying such beautiful logs! Building a barn is a lot of work, but everything went so smoothly because we were working with such beautiful Nova Scotian red spruce. Although we still have a couple of days work l...eft, we would not be nearly as far but for Dave Dwyer and Michael Butt, who agreed to jump in at last minute and install our roof. Thank you Dave and Michael ... both great workers and super nice people. I have to agree with the saying, it takes a village .... and we are so fortunate to have such talented and hardworking individuals in ours!

So excited! Rob and I now have a finished office space! I made his desk with some live edge elm that we had left over in our storage area. For my floating desk and the herb shelf i used our kiln dried ash, which really matches Rob’s elm desk. To finish things off, my good friend popped by yesterday with the perfect topper for the shelf .... I love it! Thank you Nora ... you were right on with this :)

Super happy today because I got my space back at The Halifax Brewery Market! I am located right across from The Neighbourhood Goods store. The management team at The Halifax Brewery Market is absolutely amazing. They continued to support vendor needs throughout the pandemic by opening the Neighbourhood store and providing support and advice for online sales. The Saturday market is running smoothly with added measures in place (mandatory mask and social distancing) to keep patrons and vendors as safe as possible.

Just finishing up some cutting boards for tomorrow’s Halifax Brewery Market (open every Saturday from 8 am - 1 pm at the Keith’s Brewery Market on Lower Water Street) These boards are made with Live edge kiln dried yellow birch and are $25 each .., great gift idea?

With the holiday season just around the corner, I am getting the Wood Creations store at the mill stocked up with unique gift ideas. Over the past week or so, I made 20 charcuterie and cutting boards that range in price from $20 to $100. I am waiting for some brass antique handles Rob ordered from Ontario that will give these boards quite a vintage look. ... Let me know if there is a specific style and size that you are looking for :)

Rob and I just delivered this spalted yellow birch table and bench to our good friends in Elmsdale. It looks fantastic in their beautiful home and they could not have chosen nicer chairs .... I love this look :)

Just getting ready for the Halifax Brewery Market this morning from 8 am - 1 pm this lovely Saturday morning. If you are in the area, please stop by and support your Nova Scotia small business owners. We are located on Lower Water Street in the Historic Alexander Keith’s building.... You will find locally grown produce, all kinds of yummy food, and many hand made products .

One of my customers (aka my cousin in law Lacy) has been doing some very beautiful work with resin and our kiln dried hardwood as the base for his beautiful art work. If you want more information about his work, PM me and I will forward his contact info.

I have been working on a spalted birch dining table and bench for some good friends of ours. In between glue ups, I made this spalted yellow birch coffee table with a barn board base. I am really pleased with how this turned out .... the colours on the table top are just striking.

Excellent experience and craftsmanship, I do highly recommend!
