Another successful fundraiser for Timio Stavro Church!

REMINDER: The Fundraising Clothing Drive at École Socrates-Démosthène Campus II is THIS SATURDAY NOVEMBER 21. A perfect time to clean out your closets, give to the less fortunate and help the Parents Committee raise much needed funds for this campus.

The Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal is shocked by the extremely disrespectful caricature of Emmanuella Lambropoulos published in La Presse, showing the MP for Saint- Laurent facing predominantly male colleagues lining up to take turns slapping her. La Presse, this is not ok! The message that Serge Chapleau’s cartoon sends is unacceptable and insulting to all women. Violence and sexism have no place in our society. We condemn La Presse for showing a complete and total lack of judgement and we demand La Presse issue an immediate apology to Ms. Lambropoulos and to all women that work to be recognized and respected as equals.

La Communauté Hellénique du Grand Montréal est choquée de voir cette caricature irrespectueuse envers Emmanuella Lambropoulos. Cette caricature, publiée dans La Presse, représente la députée de Saint-Laurent devant un défilé de collègues masculins (à l'exception d'une députée qui se fait dire "on ne pousse pas derrière"). Ces derniers font la file pour prendre leur tour, un à un, à gifler la députée Lambropoulos. La Presse, cela est inacceptable ! Le message que Serge Chaplea...u envoie avec sa caricature est inacceptable et insulte toutes les femmes à haut niveau. La violence et le sexisme n'ont pas de place dans notre société moderne. Nous condamnons La Presse pour son manque de jugement et nous demandons à votre publication de publier ses excuses formelles envers la députée et à toutes les femmes qui luttent dans leur quotidien à être respectées et reconnues comme égales par leurs pairs. This weekend, The Laconian Brotherhood of Montreal /H launched an important initiative to provide help and hope to families in need during this difficult time. In partnership with the Red Cross, more than 100 families received food baskets, packed with care by a team of volunteers, including some faces you might recognize under the masks from the HCGM Board of Directors, our Regional Councils and a few employees. Deliveries were made to the Foyer hellénique pour personnes agées, Father Nicholas-Salamis Residence, and many others. We congratulate the Laconian Brotherhood on this initiative and are extremely proud to have worked along side them.

Online teaching goes trick-or-treating! HCGM Supplementary Education kindergarten teacher Mania Chalvatzi drove more than 80 kilometres around Montreal yesterday (from St-Leonard to Laval North, and from West Island to Outremont) to meet and offer treats to her lilliputian students to celebrate Halloween. This was the first time the children met their teacher in person, on the front steps of their homes (respecting of course all health measures). Since the beginning of the school year, all supplementary education classes have moved online because of the pandemic.

$5,000 for the HCGM South Shore Region / St. John the Baptist Church! A successful and sold out event took place this weekend on the South Shore to support the many needs of our Saint John the Baptist Church in that region. We thank our chef, Peter Xenos, the HCGM South Shore Regional Council, Father George, the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Shore, the team of volunteers, and the generous benefactors who contributed to this event. Also, we must not forget to thank our supporters, not just in this region or this church, but everywhere events like this are being held. YOU ARE WHAT MAKES US A COMMUNITY!
