In February 2020, 11 incredible individuals from the Toronto Bloggers Collective stayed at The Hive as part of a Durham Tour thanks to Central Counties Tourism. It feels like it was a gift for all of us - especially in light of what has happened since. Thank you for your heart-warming perspective and for your support Christopher James Mitchell. Appreciate you and Kevin Wagar sharing via Ultimate Ontario - A Community For Amazing Ontario Experiences! #VisitYDH #DurhamRegion #thisisclarington
Retreat to Nature! Now that we are open again, we are adapting to the new environment by taking precautions and making changes. Hope to see you soon! https://mailchi.mp/82d1be4537e6/retreat-to-nature
Art as expression? therapy? Do you practise creating art as self care? I spent time creating a Mandala at The Hive Centre out of dried flowers, it was so calmin...g and relaxing! A bunch of us did it and we were amazed how different they all are even though we had the same materials to work with. #torontobloggersco #durhamtourism #visitYDH See more
Forest bathing, Shinrin-Yoku, in Durham Region on a February afternoon. Forest bathing is a Japanese spiritual experience and an exercise in mindfulness and connection to nature.
Yesterday, we had the chance to reconnect with nature and ourselves at The Hive, which is nothing short of a sanctuary in Ontario’s Durham Region. Perhaps the ...highlight was the opportunity to go forest bathing, where we aimed to open up our senses to the magic of the forest. We focused on taking deep breaths of the refreshing air, listening and feeling the snow crunch under our feet, and even drinking from the rushing stream. For the Toronto Bloggers Collective, this was a huge opportunity that I know we all took to heart. It’s never been more important for all of us to take care of the environment, and yesterday was a powerful reminder of that. #VisitYDH #DurhamTourism #DiscoverON #TorontoBloggersCo
Kevin and Elsii welcome us to our first evening at the @thehivecenter, a warm, fiery, loving embrace to join a special circle of close colleagues and friends fr...om the @tobloggers. The Wilmot Creek Commemorative Forest flows out from the back yard of the Hive Center, providing a natural healing canopy of deciduous and ancient cedar trees, perfect for a cleansing, spiritual, and for this weary traveller, an emotional forest bath. @durhamtourism and @visitydh is but an hour from the big city. Come and discover her mindful and peace inducing charm. See more
Shinrin Yoku, also known as forest bathing, is a practice that uses all five senses to connect with the environment around you. Thinking only of the present, yo...u slowly wander through trees in the forest while focusing on what you see, hear, smell, taste and feel. It's as if you're meditating while Mother Nature lends a helping hand to provide you with calming stimuli while focusing on your breathing. As someone who hikes alone regularly, it wasn't an unfamiliar sensation. However when you're hiking, you're focusing on the trail. What you see and experience while making your way to a destination. There's a game plan, a goal for your adventure. Shinrin Yoku is different. It's scientifically proven to reduce stress, improve creativity, increase feelings of happiness, lower your heart rate, boost your immune system and more. With forest bathing, the only focus is a sense of calm. It's taking the time to truly feel what's around you. To notice all the little things that you normally don't in everyday life. The feeling of the ground beneath your feet, the sound of the wind passing through the leaves, the sensation of each individual snowflake touching your cheeks. There's no hurry, no timeframe, no sense of urgency - just the forest around you. While it may have been my first time venturing into the realm of Shinrin Yoku, it certainly won't be my last. A huge thank you to Kevin and Elsii of The Hive Centre for guiding myself and our group on this mindful journey through the Wilmot Creek Commemorative Forest. They run a number of retreats including Shinrin Yoku, Indigenous Cultural Sensitivity Training with Bear Standing Tall, frequency meditation and much more. Forest bathing is the intention of improving an individual's mental or physical health, by meditating in nature or outdoor surroundings. I was able to partake ...in forest bathing the other day at The Hive Centre in Leasark, Ontario. It was a hugely emotional and moving experience for all involved. Have you tried this before? Would you? #visitYDH #DurhamTourism #Torontobloggersco See more
I spent a truly special day yesterday with an amazing collection of people at The Hive Centre in Clarington Ontario. Our day was spent reflecting, sharing, and ...finding special moments both together and alone in peaceful forests of York Durham Headwaters. If you have never tried forest bathing, I could not recommend it enough. Thanks to Maiku Wong for capturing a powerful moment in the woods. #DurhamTourism #DiscoverON #VisitYDH #TorontoBloggersCo
