Friends! For the past 9 months I’ve been working on a HUGE new project: creating my very own line of kimono-style dusters and jackets. It’s called Market of Stars. And I’m getting ready to share more about it with all of you over the coming weeks! It started slowly. Like many dreams do. When my friend Arleta & I were working on an art project earlier this past spring, the book we were using fell open spontaneously to this exact page, and she snapped this picture. A vision. ... I’d been daydreaming about starting Market of Stars, and at the same time doubting myself a LOT that month wondering if it was foolish to start a new company in the midst of all the uncertainty in the worldand somehow this felt like a little message to keep dreaming, keep going with my vision. Creativity has been my place of grace this year. Working on my kimono designs quietly in small pockets of time. Collaborating with other artists. Keeping the faith in my dream. This past week my first design for Market of Stars arrived, and I unpacked the boxes and marvelled at how it felt to actually hold something in my hands that had come from an idea in my head. Yesterday was our last day of the season at the shops! Oakley and I closed up and locked the doors on a year that we will definitely NEVER forget. I know you guys already know the whole crazy story because you’ve been with us through all of it! You were there for the lockdown in March when we had to suddenly cancel our grand reopening and walk away from two stores packed to the rafters with beautiful new spring goodies. When we didn’t know how we would possibly survive, and... scrambled to reinvent ourselves and stay positive. You were there to cheer us on while our dear friend Silvia helped us build our website from the ground up, and there to welcome us back in June when we could safely reopen. And you were with us every single week after that sharing our posts, messaging us with a kind word, and shopping. I want you to know that YOU are a part of our story this year in every possible way! And I want you to know that as Oakley and I locked up the shops for the season and said goodnight to them I cried tears of relief and tears of gratitude. Because our story has a happy ending: we WILL be back open in the spring to welcome you with wonderful new collections.
