My dad was an addict. He died from an overdose in 2018. I once got mad at him when his food stamp card was denied and I had to cover his groceries. It wasn’t about the money. I gave him a hard time when he broke my glass measuring cup. It wasn’t about the cup. He commented on a new haircut and I was enraged because he’d already seen it and I assumed he was too drunk to remember. It wasn’t about my hair. I drove him from doctor to doctor, from rehab to rehab, but I was freq...uently short tempered. Visibly put out by what he required of me. It wasn’t about the time. He was homeless for many years. He used to stand on corners with a sign and ask for whatever money or food people were willing to give. I loved him, but I was frequently embarrassed by him. I was mad about my childhood and what bled into my adulthood, and I found any way to take it out on him. He’s gone now and I’m not mad at him anymore. I’m mad at how much I let my inability to forgive him affect our relationship. Now he is free and I’m chained, weighed down by all the grace I couldn’t bear to give a person who so wholly was in need of it. Give forgiveness. Because my regret over withholding it is stronger than all the anger I felt throughout the years. - Scarlett Longstreet

Not even sure what I just heard.....So Government of New Brunswick has given Maison Nazareth / House of Nazareth hundreds of thousands of taxpayers money to shelter our city’s homeless and yet there is NO accountability at all while they put our city’s homeless out in the cold. At first it was because of covid guidelines and now it’s because it was their choice to put people out...... Now before anyone says it’s because the homeless do not want to follow rules let me a...sk you something....what are the rules? How come the RCMP have been to the new shelter on Albert street more times in a month then they did at their previous location in 20 years? The only thing that has changed has been management... There is a serious lack of understanding, compassion and leadership going on and our city’s homeless are the ones paying the price. When the director of a homeless shelter calls all the people he is helping, customers, leaches and drug addicts, do you think it’s the right person for the job? Taxpayer dollars should only be given to organizations based on results and not based on government friendships, because that’s why we are in this mess. So if you are experiencing #Homelessness and the curfew is 8 p.m to 5 a.m and you can face a fine ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 for breaking curfew but the shelters are turning away people then what do you do?

What would you call it? As most of you know, we now have another property. Everything outlined in red is roughly the size of our land. We plan on starting a rehabilitation and reintegration retreat to help those with addiction and mental health issues in our community. We need a good name for this initiative. This is Will. 14 years ago, he was homeless and addicted to heroin. We met as he was digging in the dumpster looking for recyclables. I asked him what possessed a man to do such a thing... he shared that his wife died unexpectedly and in the wake of her death, he tried heroin- ONE TIME and became addicted. He lost his home and job as a result of his addiction. Over the next several months, Will and I developed a friendship. I looked forward to posting at hatch and Herndon ...in hopes I’d get to see him. I liked him more than my partner at the time so I enjoyed seeing him as often as I could. We helped each other through a few tough times by offering advice and life experience. Then one day he was gone! I never saw him again.... over the years I’ve wondered what happened to him. I wondered if he was even alive. God allowed our paths to cross again... ironically in a different Chevron. He was waiting for me outside the bathroom. He stood there with tears in his eyes and asked if I remembered him. It took me about two seconds, and I knew. It was my Will!! He nostalgically reminded me about a pair of boots and a jacket I gave him to make sure he didn’t freeze. I also gave him $7 to get his ID... with a promise that he wouldn’t spend it on drugs. Will kept his promise. He got his ID, a job, and later a wife. Will also found grace in the arms of our heavenly creator. We totally snot cried in the middle of the store before asking the clerk to take our picture. I wanted to share this story because kindness matters. Kindness can change the course of someone’s world. You may never know it, but Will is proof of that. Be Kind in all you do. One day it will find you and overwhelm you with eternal gratitude. Source- Jeanah Nomelli

So my husband tells my son (who has autism) to run in and get a take-out menu from Sun Restaurant. They even practice it in the car beforehand. Then my son goes in and my husband is waitingand waitingand waitingso finally decides to see what’s going on. What’s going on is that my son is at a table, eating. Apparently, he told the hostess I’m hungry. So she sat him down and asked what he wanted to eat, and he answered: beef. She told her cooks, hurry, this boy is very hungry, and made him a beef curry with rice. She said that he was so sweet she was planning on letting him eat for free. I Sun Restaurant in Williamsville. If you end up there, thank them again, from me. For their kindness, and for treating my son like family. Credit: Sandra Block

There are some really good people out there!!! We were having a problem with our thermostat on our wood furnace so we called Dave at Fireside Home Heating to come and have a look at it. He drove all the way out to our farm in Little River, tinkered around a bit, fixed a few things and got everything working 100%. Asked him, what we owed him for coming out and he said "Nothing, it's my good deed for the day" Thank You so much Dave for helping keep a few people a little war...mer this winter. People are simply awesome!!! Someone gave us a snowblower to help keep our walkways clear this winter for the volunteers and our friends who visit the Center. We dropped it off at CR Yardworks & Equipment to get it serviced and make sure it was ready for winter. They fixed a bunch of stuff on it, changed the fluids and got it all greased up. When we went to pay for it, they told us there was no charge and it was their way of helping our community.... Thank You so much for all the help!!! People helping people is what it’s all about.
