We are still here to assist you with your tax filings, we only retired from the Bottle Depot and day to day bookkeeping operations. There seems to be some rumors about that we retired from all, but that is untrue. Our phone number remains the same 250-295-3835, and our cell and email are also the same but our location has changed, we now work from home. Feel free to call or message if you have questions.

Tax information you need to know if you bought or sold a home If you bought or sold your home this year or plan to buy or sell a home soon, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has information to help you. I have been speaking with many folks from our area who are unaware of medical deductions they can claim when they file their Income Tax return. As we live in a... rural area, many of us travel out of town for appointments and treatments that are unavailable in Princeton. Many of these are claimable. If you have not already done so, now is the time to gather your information together from 2018 so you can maximize this years claim. You may claim the cost of travel expenses, including accommodations, meals, and parking, when a person needs to travel at least 80 kilometers (one way) from their home to get eligible medical services. As it is about 235 kilometres round trip from Princeton to the Penticton Hospital, thats us! Your mileage claim is kilometres traveled from your home to the appointment and back home again. To claim transportation and travel expenses, the following conditions must be met: -substantially equivalent medical services were not available near your home (so regular blood tests would not qualify, but lab work unavailable in Princeton would be. A regular eye exam would not be, but regular screening for glaucoma or cataracts is). -you took a reasonably direct travelling route -it is reasonable, under the circumstances, for you to travel to that place for those medical services. (Penticton is reasonable, but traveling to Vancouver for a yearly dental cleaning because you wanted to keep your old dentist would not qualify.) -If a medical practitioner certifies in writing that you were not able to travel alone to get medical services, you can also claim the transportation and travel expenses of an attendant. You may be able to claim accommodation, meal, and parking expenses in addition to your transportation expenses as medical expenses. For calculating meal and vehicle expenses, you can choose to use the detailed or simplified method. If you use the detailed method, you have to keep all receipts and records for your 12-months period. For more information and to find out about the rates used to calculate these travel expenses, go to Meal and vehicle rates used to calculate travel expenses for 2017 and previous years. (2018 rates will be released soon). If you choose the simplified method, claim in Canadian or US funds a flat rate of $17/meal, to a maximum of $51/day (sales tax included) per person, without receipts. Although you do not need to keep detailed receipts for actual expenses if you choose to use this method, we may still ask you to provide some documentation to support your claim. Simplified rate for vehicle is 50 cents per kilometre. (These are 2017 rates. Again, rates for 2018 will be updated soon). You must keep receipts for all accommodation expenses and you must be able to show that the amount paid for accommodation is necessary because of the distance travelled and your medical condition. Claim the amount for accommodation as shown on your receipts. I keep a spreadsheet that I can update each time we take a trip for an appointment. That way I know what the treatment was, if we needed to pay for parking and how much, and if we had a meal or two. So when tax time comes around, all my info is easily referenced and correct. It really does make a difference on my return. Below is a link to the Canada Revenue info sheet for medical deductions allowed. I hope the information is of benefit. Link to travel expense info:

Fixed my blocked posts I wondered where everybody had been! This is good to know: It's ridiculous to have so many friends and only 25 are allowed to see my post. I ignored this post earlier, because I didnt think it worked. It WORKS!! I have a whole new news feed. Im seeing posts from people I havent seen in years. Heres how to bypass the system FB now has in place that limits posts on your news feed.... Their new algorithm chooses the same few people - about 25 - who will read your posts. Therefore, Hold your finger down anywhere in this post and "copy" will pop up. Click "copy". Then go your page, start a new post and put your finger anywhere in the blank field. "Paste" will pop up and click paste. Hopefully, this will bypass the system?l See more

Ignoring your debt does not make it go away.... Find out your options if you cant pay in full now The CRA can work with you to set up a payment arrangement in My Account or My Business Account. The sooner you take action, the less interest youll have to pay. To make a payment arrangement for you or your business, go to Pay by pre-authorized debit or contact us. The CRA has two new tools that can help you manage your tax debt. Try out our new Payment Arrangement Calculator, which you can use to estimate your payments and the time needed to reduce your debt to zero. The CRA has also introduced an Income and Expense Worksheet. This worksheet will help you calculate the part of your net income that is available to pay your tax debt. To help the CRA determine your ability to pay, you may have to give details of your financial situation and proof of your income, expenses, assets, and liabilities. Keep on track Staying up to date with your tax obligations is an important part of managing your finances. If you are struggling to make your payments, the CRA can help you.
