Have you heard about FODMAPs contributing to IBS? Want to learn more? Monash University is a great resource!... Remember this diet may help short term, but is not meant to be done long term! If you feel better eating a low FODMAP diet, it is very likely you have SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth), and this needs to be treated!

The IBS Academy 30.08.2020

"If you’re using a low-FODMAP diet to keep your SIBO under control, you’re not alone. However, diet on its own does not cure SIBO" "Simply put, a low-FODMAP or low-carb diet does not eradicate an overgrowth in the small intestine in a short period of time, and continuing on a long-term low-FODMAP/carbohydrate diet in an effort to starve the bacteria to death has potential detrimental effects on the bacteria in the large intestine"

"IT’S NOT A FAD. Detoxification is key to health. In fact, problems with detoxification is one of the roots of illness. The gut is one of the core systems in the body that must be working well for you to be healthy."

"SIBO is largely under-diagnosed. This is because many people don’t seek medical care for their SIBO symptoms, and because many doctors aren’t aware of how common SIBO is." "Some studies suggest that between 6 to 15% of healthy, asymptomatic people have SIBO, while up to 80% of people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) have SIBO. "

Stress - how exactly does it impact IBS? "When you're in a state of fear or panic, your body has no desire to digest a meal. Stress leads to lowered stomach acid, hydrochloric acid (HCl), which is needed to break down proteins but also signal other digestive organs to begin secreting enzymes and prepping for food entering the body. HCl kills pathogens (unwanted microbes!) as is a huge part of our defence system, too!" Doesn't sound great does it? It basically turns off your w...hole digestive system :( SO, if you haven't been prioritizing stress management and relaxation - NOW is the time!

Tired of living with IBS? It doesn't have to be that way! It will take time and commitment, but it is possible to feel better! "When inflammation is reduced by reducing infection, we start to see mood improve and neurotransmitter production increase (reduced anxiety, greater happiness and ability to handle work and stress). Because here's the thing: if the gut is inflamed, the brain is inflamed."
