"We Are All Treaty People" - what does that mean for you and how do you incorporate this into your daily life as a Mi'kmaw person or an ally to the Mi'kmaw Nation? It's important to understand that treaties were not signed by just one Nation. Treaties were signed as an agreement between two nations, to live harmonious lives and to agree to certain conditions that each Nation needed to have in place so that people could live their lives in a safe environment supportive of thei...r cultural and spiritual beliefs and systems. The intention of signing treaties was to ensure that this agreement would be respected and binding on the two parties ie the two nations and their people. This of course we know through history did not happen for our Mi'kmaw Nation, the first people of these traditional lands we call Mi'kmaki. As part of the work I do to help educate people from all walks of life about our history and our challenges and continued struggles It is important for people to realize that these treaties were not just for us, they were signed with intentions for both parties to deliver on. And now I think many people realize across the country that there are many instances where this hasn't happened and how we need to work together more than ever to rebuild and strengthen these relationships so that our nation's can recapture and rebuild what has been lost and taken away from us. It is with this intention that I hope many continue to educate themselves on the real history and the many continued challenges that exist. It is only through significant investment into cross-cultural education, respectful dialogue and long term strategic planning that true growth and reconciliation can happen.

It's been awhile since we've posted since we are so busy working on projects with tourism, culture, sport, environment, cross cultural awareness training, workshop facilitation and more... We are so fortunate to have sustainable work opportunities during this pandemic and we are now at peak times but we know we are doing good work for our people, and we feel that it is making a difference. We are blessed and we want to thank all of our clients. We appreciate you and we work... hard to represent you and the needs of your clients. And of course we can't do this without the support of our family and partners, we love you all and we need you. Our support team is also growing as we add new people to our support team. We look forward to continuing on the journey of Reconciliation with all that need to be on this journey with us. We may still be working mostly online because of the pandemic restrictions, but we are still making a difference and reaching people. There is so much to do, so much to share, so much to learn. We are getting there slowly but we still need to invest time and resources towards increasing long term relationship building with our Mi'kmaw & Indigenous people's globally. We are all Treaty People, let's take some time to understand what that truly means... Wela'liek / We Thank You! Robert Bernard President/CEO www.theIndigenousGuide.com

I've always been amazed at these type of discoveries where we really don't have enough research on our deep cultural connections with other nations. Here we see some of our oldest hieroglyphs compared to another historic culture, the Egyptians. Could this be true? This could open some very interesting conversations about cultural connections! Has there or will there be research done in the future? ... These are things that make you go hmmm... I wonder...

Finding ways to create sustainable living environments for our Indigenous communities is essential to our future planning as a people. This is true for community and socio-economic based projects aimed at increasing jobs, housing, infrastructure and must include community engagement. This is the right path forward that is not difficult, it just requires time and the willingness for the process to be inclusive and respectful of views, opinions and community priorities.... https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=303641091245322

Participating in authentic Indigenous experiences and combining beautiful nature walks with the colors of the year, mixed in with some traditional foods, music, dancing and stories makes for a great family experience. Here we see the beautiful We'koqma'q Skye River Trail, my home community, recently upgraded with a 1.5 km walking trail, ample parking, new signage and one of the best fishing spots on the Skye River. Just in time for the upcoming 2021 Tourism Year! We will b...e working with the Nova Scotia Indigenous Tourism Enterprise Network to help promote Indigenous owned businesses and band owned enterprises like the Skye River Trail and promote them to visitors from around the world coming to our traditional territory!
