So refreshing to hear we and us instead of I and me from the President’s podium. Some friends scoff at my hope for this leadership. To them I say this: when you’re not white and you’ve had to listen to the hate and vitriol and black and brown people barbs which become comedic and turned into memes for humour, it hurts. Maybe quietly, maybe loudly. Regardless, it really hurts. To hear a leader speak out against this garbage in his inaugural address and to have a Black and South Asian Vice President....well, my father came to Canada in 1949 as one of the first South Asians here. Today is important to me and so many others. The US is important to Canada and the rest of the world. GO JOE!!!!

Massey says that in these uncertain times it is best to be surrounded by those that bring out the best in you and not the stress in you.

Democracy is not dead. It may be bruised and in some cases beaten but it is not dead. Think of certain refugees who have been able to cast a vote for the first time in their lives and make their voices heard. Ask them what that feels like. We take it for granted and sling arrows at everything that’s wrong with our systems. It’s an imperfect perfection. We will never collectively agree on everything even when it comes to what is morally right or wrong. Faced with the alternative of living in an unelected autocracy, I am so grateful that my Dad and Mom chose Canada and the West to call their home. Beyond the noise of the past 4 years, things will be better. and we, including myself personally will be the better for it. Spread the faith as Joe would say.
