Artists on CERB/CRB! It is never too early to start planning your taxes, especially when 2020 may create some added complexity for visual artists. Join CARFAC National conversation with artist Steve Higgins and tax preparer/actor Tova Epp on October 28 at 1pm EST, to discuss what artists should consider when preparing their taxes as a professional artist, tips to deal with CRA reviews and audit situations, and how to plan for reporting CERB and CRB next year.

In the resurgence of #BLM protests this summer, The James Black Gallery took the time to look at the internal work we had not done. During this time, the board of directors and staff recognized key policies and documents that had gone undeveloped for a place that considers itself to be a safer space. We spent this summer developing a Code of Conduct, Accessibility Information Document, Antiracism Toolkit specific to BC, and COVID-19 Policy as community agreements to do bette...r and hold ourselves accountable. You can find them on our contact page on our website. https://www.thejamesblack.gallery/contact In addition, we have been holding an anti-racism book discussion club with our staff, studio, and board in order to continue developing a deeper understanding and entrenching ourselves in our own expectations to do better. We will continue to keep finding ways to hold ourselves to these policies as we move forward. -Zandi Dandizette
In the wake of COVID-19, the Sector Equity Alliance for Anti-Racism in the Arts (SEARA) aims to raise $500K $1M for BC-based BIPOC Artists facing financial hardship. Donate now to support equity in the arts! PAARC helped support the initial surge in creating this fund and it is now open to donations from the public. Please share!
The James Black Gallery has taken on a leadership role in our involvement with PAARC. We look forward to the ways we can help advocate for cultural workers and artist led organizations in British Columbia.
