Today I would like to honour Sharon Holliday. Sharon is the sister of my sister in law Sandy and a friend of the family. Sandy shared this about her sister:... Sharon would graciously and willingly do anything for anyone I especially like this one, Sharon would always be the last to leave the party I do remember her always smiling and oh, so beautiful! Her daughter Sheryl, an amazing person herself, said this: What would I say about my mom, there is so much. But I think, other than her beautiful smile, I would have to say her capacity for joy and finding that joy in the smallest of things. I always say that she lived more in 57 years than most do in a lifetime because she squeezed every once of joy out of every moment she could. And her love for her family. She told me, near the end, that the best thing she ever did in her life was having her four children. She loved my dad and us kids. She adored her grandchildren. This is my Aunty Denise and Uncle Chris. I was always Janny Panny to them. Growing up they were so much fun to be around! My parents were not only their relatives but their best friends too. Oh, the parties they would have! ... When I think of my Aunty I remember Baby Duck and her constant mocking of me about bawling my face off at every wedding, funeral, baby’s birth, sappy movie etc. And listen to this one courtesy of my Uncle Chris... My sister Heather and I were at their house for a visit and I wanted a hot dog for lunch. I ate maybe half of it, so Uncle Chris said that he would save the rest in the freezer and i could eat it next time i was visiting. Know what he did? He showed up, at my wedding, and gave it to me for a present! Aunty Denise and Uncle Chris had one amazing daughter, Debbie. Debbie went on to get married have a family including 3 beautiful granddaughters. Everyone knows where I am going with this. Debbie lost both her parents. Yes, both her parents to this evil disease. We lost two incredible souls too early but we hold on to the memories. By doing the Spin for Life, we raise the money needed to fight Cancer. So.... I did a thing this year! When covid regularions allowed it, I joined a golf club. Yes, me! Not a great golfer but I love the game so thought I would give it a try. It’s been a great season with great people at an amazing course. The Canals at Delacour. Why is this an amazing course??? For so many reasons. Ya the track is super (that’s golf talk for the actual golf course) but mainly for the people! The staff is friendly, accommodating and truly a pleasure to see ...and interact with. This weekend is the Canal Cup which I had the pleasure of sponsoring. 48 golfers make up two teams-Team Fraser (whatever) and Team Davidchuk (WOO HOO) that go head to head in different formats. What a blast! We are ahead right now 14-10. Benchmark rate for mortgage qualifying dropping to 5.04% as of Monday. This is down from 5.19%. This will ease qualifications a little for new mortgage applications.... Little glimmer of hope!

What can you do while you wait for your lender to get back to you about mortgage payment plans? Talk to your broker about refinancing. We're encouraging many of... our clients to reach out to look at renegotiating their mortgage while interest rates are still low. This can be a great way to help you increase your monthly cash flow while reducing your interest payments. We have seen some lenders increase their rates over the last few days so our advice is to do this sooner rather than later to secure your low rate.

Today, Minister of Finance, Bill Morneau, announced changes to the benchmark rate used to determine the minimum qualifying rate for insured mortgages, also known as the stress test. These changes will come into effect on April 6, 2020. The new benchmark rate will be the weekly median 5-year fixed insured mortgage rate from mortgage insurance applications, plus 2%. SOCIAL MEDIA IN BUSINESS IS HARD WORK! Staying in the game, making posts two, three times a week. Having something to say that is relevant and real is super tough. This week, I fell off the social media train. I missed my mug Monday and haven't made a post for a bit. For those who care, I'm sorry. ... When I help other brokers in the industry, I tell them that they have to "be on" all of the time. That part is tough too! I haven't been totally on and to myself, I am sorry. One of my best friends fell ill this week. It hit me very hard for so many reasons and on so many levels. I was able to visit her in the hospital and see for myself that she will be ok so that made things a little better. There are a lot of quotes floating around out there with the Kobe passing and this week they are more true than ever. Live life for today as tomorrow is never promised. Make sure your love ones know they are loved. Don't sweat the small stuff. Perhaps my focus hasn't been great but we all have those days and sometimes weeks. AND THAT'S OK!!! Today is a day where we do our best to end the stigma around mental illness. It’s ok to take some time for yourself and make sure you are healthy mentally. Welcome to 2020. For the new year I would like to try to do 52 Random Acts of Kindness I’m 52... 52 weeks in the year I want to do something nice, fun, cool, giving every week. I have always tried to do little things that matter. When Zak was just a baby, we would go from Neepawa to Brandon just to get out of the house. Walmart would be one of our places to go. When it was bottle time, I would head over to the McDonalds to sit down and feed him. One gal in particular who worked there would always be sooooo helpful by warming his bottle. For Christmas that year, I put together some home made chocolates and some goodies in a basket to thank her for her help. She was so excited, she cried. Nothing expensive just tried to be as thoughtful as she was to me. Soooooo my first random act of kindness and kind of a New Years resolution is to the environment. No, I don’t recycle all the time or do the compost thing, but this is my way to help out. I think I have a problem. I have 71 reusable bags in my closet!!!! For 2020 I promise to use these bags ALL the time and not buy another one. NO PLASTIC bags. Let’s see how long this lasts-really going to try to do this. Once November hits and the snow starts falling (and sticking around), I can't help but reflect on the wonderful year I've had and how lucky I am to be surrounded by the BEST people. November also awakens the baker in me too! Baked goods are one of the best things to gift and receive, so in the spirit of giving, I want to share some of my absolute fave recipes with you leading up to the holidays. On the menu today : butterscotch marshmallow squares! You'll need.... 1/2 c...up butter 1 cup peanut butter 1 bag butterscotch chips 1 bag mini marshmallows - melt together butter, peanut butter, and butterscotch chips in a saucepan on looooow heat until mixed, stirring constantly - let cool slightly - add marshmallows and stir (don't want to melt the marshmallows) - pour into greased 11x13" baking dish - chill and then cut into squares (size to be determined by your individual wants and needs) Bam! 15 mins of work and you got yourself a delicious tray of treats for eating or gifting! I have a very special guest for #MugMonday today! Since Christmas is coming up, he's making Santa guess if he's been naughty or nice this year... My grown up little boy Zak came for a visit this weekend and we had the best time. Went out for lunch, shopped a lot, made homemade pizzas, watched ALL the sports, and he even made sure to text his sister and claim his spot as favourite kid. Daylight Savings Time gave us all an extra hour of sleep even! I've said it before and I'll say it again. Finding a great rate is awesome, securing new mortgages for people is great, but turning clients into friends and then family is the very best part of my job. Wise words from my good pal Paul Bojakli: "Bank of Canada Update: So it looks like prime rate (3.95%) will remain the same for the next little while. I have some mixed emotions on this, I feel the BoC should have signalled a discount of at least 25bps based on the current global climate (nevermind our current political climate... ugh!). i'm concerned when they decide to do a drop it may be a significant one (say a full 1% for example).... So what is the good news? 1. At least it's not an increase! 2. Variable rate payments remain the same. Rates are still very competitive and it is a good time to refinance, renew/switch or purchase. On a side note.... It'll be interesting to watch our dollar... It may be increasing and it may be a good time to buy some US$... :)"

After a wonderful whirlwind weekend visiting my not-such-a-baby-anymore baby girl, I want to share with you the top 7 things I learned about Louisiana: 1) Never curl your hair. The humidity is out of this world and redefines the word "moist". 2) There are random turtles and snakes everywhere.... 3) Don't bring up the presidential T word if you are not a T word fan yourself. 4) Drive thru margarita places are apparently a thing - just make sure you don't put the straw in the cup or its "open liquor" and you get in big trouble. 5) The key to winning the love of your daughter's entire ball team is homemade lasagna. 6) You can always tell who the athletes are on campus because they carry around a gargantuan 4L jug of water at all times. 7) Rain. Rain. Humidity. More rain. You will sweat in places you didn't even know you had places. . All jokes aside, I'm missing my girl but happy to be home.
