Meet Nicole Crimi today’s #HumanOfSupport Nicole is a second-year medical student at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She is also a fine artist, illustrator, and most recently - a children’s book author! COVID-19 has greatly impacted Nicole’s studies. Classes have become virtual and in clinic work is almost non-existent. Not yet having the qualifications for a role on the frontlines has forced Nicole to be more creative in the ways she supports her commun...ity. Visiting her newborn nephew while wearing a mask and being physically distant Nicole recalls, I felt like I was scaring him with the mask and in that moment, I realized how much things were changing for the little ones. This realization was the inspiration for a melding of Nicole’s two disciplines, art and medicine. Nicole started researching COVID-19 and her discussion of healthcare issues with specialists underlined the importance of communication and knowledge. The result was Patty and the Pandemic. Written, illustrated, and self-published by Nicole, the book provides information about staying safe and coping with the pandemic accessible to young children. All proceeds from sales of the book go to Face the Future Foundation. Like many of us, Nicole has been finding joy spending time outside and staying in touch with friends and family. Some of her favourite experiences though have been the positive feedback about the book from the kids, their families, and teachers. She’s been giving online readings of Patty for groups of children and has quizzed the kids afterwards and says, It’s so gratifying to see how much they’ve learned! Nicole remembers reading her own favourite books under the covers late at night and says that, When one parent told me their kid was discovered up past bedtime hiding under the blankets with a flashlight reading Patty and the Pandemic - that made my day! #HumansOfSupportTO #Thankyou #HealthCareHeroes #COVID19 #COVID19Ontario #COVID19Canada #StaySafe #WearAMask #MaskUp #Hamilton #MakeADifference #ChildrensBook #Community Nicole Crimi @nicolecrimiart Patty and the Pandemic McMaster University Humans Of Support #portrait #portraitphotography #torontophotographer #the6ix #photography

Today would have marked our 12th annual Sweaty Betty’s Boxing Day Blowout. This is always a highlight of the holidays for me. Letting go of holiday stress, hanging with our chosen family & laughing the night away; it’s always a blast. Locked down & locked out we are hunkered down apart but always together in our hearts. Cheers everybody! Stay strong, stay safe, wear a mask and of course, stay sweaty! : @reggiepics ... #boxingday #holiday #holidays #sweatybettysbar #local #localbusiness #smallbusiness #hospitality #shoplocal #torontophotographer #the6ix #missyou #toronto #staysafe #stayhome #wearamask #cheers #positivevibes #ossingtonstrip #beer #portrait See more
