The King's University 22.01.2021

"You know that proverbial image of a hamster spinning round and round on a wheel, going nowhere? That’s what 2020 has felt like for many of us, resulting in disorientation and a kind of stuckness. Some days we have faithfully tried to do good work, and felt somewhat productive. On other days, perhaps more times than we care to admit, we have gone through the motions and we have floundered, throwing up our hands in capitulation as we head towards Netflix and the cookie jar." Feeling stuck or anxious about the future? Try the Becoming Unstuck exercise on the Centre for Career and Calling blog: https://www.kingsu.ca///blog/post/becoming-unstuck-in-2021

Do you know your King's history? These new retro ringer tees feature a version of the King's logo from the 80s and early 90s, when The King's University was called The King's College!

This year came with more than its share of challenging news but as a community we rose to the occasion. Here are a few of the good news stories we were able to accomplish together: - Developed a Student Emergency Fund so donors could directly support students in financial need because of the pandemic. - Made significant new investments in I.T infrastructure and support services to meet the needs of online learning. - Offered students their choice of on-campus... learning opportunities or purely online course delivery. - Appointed an EDI consultant to cultivate and maintain a safe and welcoming learning environment. - Opened the Centre for Career and Calling to provide students with vocational counseling, job search assistance, and internship advice. - Raised $36,000 in support of student scholarships at our annual Harvest Banquet and Silent Auction. - Met our Giving Tuesday fundraising goal which will allow for exciting new renovations to campus spaces this winter. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and have so much hope for what the new year may bring! King's is projecting a return to normal operations by September 2021.

Take a moment to be still with Dr. Christina Edmunson, the keynote speaker from Following Jesus in a Culture of Fear and Anxiety, this semester's Interdisciplinary Studies Conference. You may find it helpful to inhale as the circle grows and exhale as it shrinks. This academic year, the I.S. Conference theme spans both semesters. Join us January 20 to 21 for the Winter semester portion: Strong Communities Strong Individuals. If you missed Dr. Edmunson's keynote lecture and want to catch up, you can find it on our YouTube channel.
