And on that note...The LVB staff have been working very hard this summer, dealing with a higher amount of stress than usual and handling it all with an abundance of grace and positivity. Following the murder of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis, The LVB baked up a storm and donated 100% of sales from cakes & cupcakes over the course of a week to the NAACP Legal Defence Fund, and then matched it, resulting in over $2800 in sales from our community and our business going directly to this organization. Following this, we pledged to donate 10% of all cake sales going forward to the NAACP LDF to continue supporting their work to bring justice and equa...lity to American citizens. . . . Then came the senseless shooting of Jacob Blake by police in Kenosha, followed by the murder of Joseph Rosenbaum, Anthony Huber, and the shooting of Gaige Grosskreutz by a civilian at the following protests. As the violence continues, the injustice and pain does too, affecting much more than just the towns, cities and country where these things are happening. Since our initial donation in June, weve sold almost $1400 in cake. Were firm believers of walking the walk, and not just talking the talk, so were going to up our donation to 100% of all cake sales in the months of June, July, and August. 50% of that will be going to our original organization, the NAACP LDF, with the other 50% going to an organization doing important work in Canada, The Native Womens Association of Canada, an organization founded with the goal of fostering the social, economic, cultural and political wellbeing of Canadas First Nations, Metis and Inuit women and , including launching the National Inquiry Into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Gender Diverse people. . . . These issues are huge and go back many lifetimes, and we often feel helpless to affect change, so well leave it at this: enough is enough. Too long have BIPOC suffered discrimination, violence and unfair treatment. We wont stand for it, and well keep doing what we can to make the world a little bit better for everyone in it. . .
