Because of the move to Orange-Restrict status in the fight against COVID-19, we are required to gather additional information and institute new procedures. You will be provided the form below, there will be hand sanitizer at your table and we cannot seat more than 4 people to a table. Those four people must be from the same household. And you must wear a mask or face shield from the time you enter the building until the time you leave, unless you are seated at your table. We’re all in this together and we will flourish together.

On Remembrance Day, a young man came into The Lancer on his own and, after waiting for a table, sat quietly by the window and ate his meal. I later learned that his name is Winston. When he was finished and came to the cash register he gave his server $300 and said he hoped it would cover the bills of everyone in the restaurant at that time. We were in awe of his generosity, especially at a time when so many are struggling financially and emotionally. It was suggested that, b...ecause everyone had come with the intention of paying their own bills, the money be given to the Royal Canadian Legion in honor of our veterans. The suggestion was put to our patrons and received unanimous approval. The money was stuffed into the poppy box and given to the Legion member who picked it up. One of our guests left a backpack/diaper bag at The Lancer. If you know this person, please let them know we have it for them.

Apparently, The Lancer has been put on a boycott list because I declined to seat a potential patron who refused to wear a mask. He said he was exempted. He said the woman accompanying him was also exempted. When I said that they could surely wear a mask for the 30 seconds it would take to get to their table he began a rant about Draconian measures, state tyranny, etc. , leading me to believe that his exemption was more political than medical. Whether or not you agree with the current measures put in place to protect you and those around you is best taken up with the Niagara Public Health unit. I have neither the time nor the energy to engage in your political stand. I am too busy trying desperately to keep my business afloat and protect the livelihoods of my 10 employees. Please don’t make us the health police.

Great news!! We’ll be seating you in air-conditioned comfort starting Friday. A few housekeeping rules. Masks are mandatory. You must wear a mask coming in, going to the washroom, paying your bill and when leaving. Basically, if you’re not sitting at your table you must wear your mask. Masks can be made available at a cost of $2 each if you forget yours. The patio will still be available if you wish to eat outside. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
