I want to stay in touch ...
We thrive on research projects and program evaluation that will advance your mission, assist with your advocacy work and campaigns and generate policy and solutions to organizational problems.
Nervous about visiting the office? That’s ok, we will come to you through online counselling. Have questions? Feel free to get in touch.
It becomes easier to navigate friendships and relationships and run-ins with old crushes at the gas station when you know you can sit with yourself and realize that despite all that you’ve done and all you’re still learning, you’re strong and tough and not so bad. Perhaps loving yourself can finally set you free.
Imposter syndrome took a fairly universal feeling of discomfort, second-guessing, and mild anxiety in the workplace and pathologized it, especially for women. As white men progress, their feelings of doubt usually abate as their work and intelligence are validated over time. They’re able to find role models who are like them, and rarely (if ever) do others question their competence, contributions, or leadership style. Women experience the opposite. Rarely are we invited to a women’s career development conference where a session on overcoming imposter syndrome is not on the agenda.
Andy Jones, part of the vigil's planning committee, lost his son, Louis, to suicide seven years ago. He said events like the vigil are a positive moment for eve...ryone involved, especially near the holidays. "It always helps to talk to other people. And to celebrate the lives of the people that we lost to suicide," he said. "It's also very helpful to have something like this at Christmas time, which is always a hard time of year."

This Friday from 12-1 p.m., the Alexa McDonough Institute for Women, Gender and Social Justice at MSVU will host a virtual commemorative service to mark the Nat...ional Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (December 6 each year). Gender-based violence specialist Jenny Wright will talk about Confronting Misogyny From the December 6th Massacre to the Nova Scotia Shooting. Jenny is the co-founder of The Landing Services and an expert panelist with the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Accountability and Justice. For more than twenty years, she has worked in social justice across Canada and in New Zealand, with a specific focus on gender and justice. As a specialist on gender-based violence, Jenny has worked with homeless, Indigenous and sex working women. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from Memorial University. "I would welcome counselling individuals of all ages with a variety of concerns. I am particularly interested in working with individuals going through life transitions. Even when the transition is desired (for example, being in a relationship, becoming a parent, or getting a new job) the associated changes can be difficult. Transitions resulting from unwanted circumstances, such as separation and divorce, grief and loss, loneliness and rejection, abuse, illness, injury, (dis)Ability, and job loss can be particularly challenging. Whether your transition was desired or forced, counselling can be an effective way for you to receive the support, insight and strength you need to manage the storm and find your calm waters again."
Dr. Daniel Siegel, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, cites the importance of maintaining a child’s emotional well-being and social competence. Emotional intelligence and social competence both provide a strong foundation for future cognitive ability, and the bricks and mortar in the architecture in a child’s brain. We must stop to think about what the foundation of our world will look like, if the children and youth of today are subject to more toxic stress.
Our office is closed today for Remembrance Day.
We are now on Twitter, give us a follow @LandingServices
A reminder this event is being held on Friday December 4th from 12-1pm Halifax time and is free.
‘In less stressful times, perhaps, you'd have jumped to help out and lend an ear. But after months of social isolation, juggling work demands, and caring for loved ones, the balance has started to tip. Suddenly your own need for emotional support is outweighing your capacity for kindness.’
Although our work is guided by feminist and narrative approaches to therapy, neither of us rigidly adhere to one specific approach, instead we wish to work with you to find an approach that fits and can best ease your concerns. Catherine has a specific interest in working in the areas of identity and life transitions, including separation/divorce, retirement, grief and loss and social group leavings. Jenny has a specific interest in working in the area of relationships, anxiety, loss and with survivors and current victims of violence, childhood abuse, and recovery.
