The Life You Crave

Why do I have to wait until I "make it" to start living the life I crave? The Life You Crave is not only my business name, but it's also a way to live. One of my medium to long term goals was to spend at least 2 months a year in my home country, Colombia , to escape the harsh Canadian winters and to spend quality time with my family.... I just went to Colombia for 4 short days but it was enough time to realize that nothing is holding me back to make that goal a reality NOW . I am going back to Colombia at the end of January and I'll live there for approx. 5 months. This is the first decision I've made in the past couple of years that feels truly in alignment with me. One of the highlights of this year was to receive my Canadian Citizenship in February I am grateful to have been one of the last groups to have had a proper citizenship ceremony before the pandemic hit. I recently received this beautiful plaque from Member of Parliament Marie-France Lalonde (@lalondemf) sharing in her congratulatory wishes on this occasion. ... The plaque says "As a Citizen of Canada, you now share the same rights and responsibilities of all Canadians, as well as the same values. I CRAVE change On Friday I woke up and decided I wanted bangs, so I went and got bangs I crave change in more aspects than just my looks though, hence I named my business The Life You Crave.... I think if you're not growing, you're dying, and change is intertwined with growth. Not just changes in your look but changes in the way you think, they way you act, the way you live your life, etc. I think change nemesis is FEAR, fear of the unknown, fear of "failure", fear of other people's judgements (trust me, I have felt ALL these fears), but how will you know if you'll succeed at something if you don't even try it? What does my hair have to do with my business? Nothing. But hear me out on this analogy. A couple of weeks ago I decided to invest in these premium hair products designed specifically for all types of curly hair - from wavy (like mine) to coily. I received the products, I read the instructions, but I chose to do it my own way.... After the third wash I was growing frustrated because I wasn't seeing results with my hair. I reached out to the company and the first thing they asked me is whether or not I was following the steps when using the product. GULP.... I wasn't and I had to admit it! This is why I think this relates so well to my experience in business. It is so easy to blame all external circumstances when things aren't working for us, but... do we stop and ponder whether we're following the steps and being PATIENT?? There's NO change that happens overnight. Not in hair, not in business, not in life. If you keep doing things the same old way, you're unlikely to see results. One of my favourite things about starting The Life You Crave two years ago has been to be part of a community of like-minded individuals not just in Canada, but abroad too. "I don't understand what you do in your business" A friend of mine asked me this question this past week. She said "I've seen you really active on Instagram, you seem happy with this business but I don't get what you do". The short answer, I told her, "I represent a company that develops and produces award-winning online courses and live events related to personal development", but really, I do two main things in my business: 1. I market our product line, which is the ...courses and events, and 2. I mentor and assist other people who want to start their own businesses within the same company. That's basically in a nutshell what I do. As most of us say, we get paid to grow (personally, emotionally, spiritually). I love that I am constantly working on myself as an individual as I work on my business, and funny enough, my personal growth goes very much hand-in-hand with the growth and success of my business I remember hearing some of my mentors say on our calls "this business is 80% working on yourself, and 20% working on the business", I used to scoff at such a statement. "Pfffff yeah right" I thought, but sure enough, it has proven to be true. I don't stock products, I don't have to meet a sales quota every month, and the reason why my friend didn't really understand what I do in business is because I don't promote to friends and family. I spent my 33 birthday just the way I wanted to.... Very low key, chatting with my family, video calling with my closest (and oldest) friends in Colombia and eating my favourite red velvet cupcake , which I didn't have to share with anyone mwahahaha. I love birthdays and I love LIVING through another year I want to see us women embracing AGING and not being embarrassed to talk about our age. Who said that it's rude to ask a woman her age....? Pppfffff bish pl...ease Super proud and grateful to say that I have turned 33 years young today. Can't wait to 40, 50, 60, etc. Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay. I love seeing how much progress society has made in recognizing that mental health is as important as physical health. We still have a long way to go though. Let's talk about our true emotional state, feelings, etc, shall we? of course we can only achieve this when we have a support system that makes us feel safe talking about this very intimate things. Recently I had a mild case of situational depression and I am grateful for the support system that has been around me to help me get through it without the need of pharmaceuticals. My closest friends, my parents in the distance, my coach @ashleys.light, my naturopath, my psychologist and my family doctor. It's OK not to be OK and know when to take a step back and recognize that we need a break to take care of our minds. Be kind to others ALWAYS. You never know what they can be hiding behind a smile and a seemingly perfect life. It's virtually impossible to know other people's stories.
