Words matter. This is me thinking out loud and reflecting from my own personal experience with loss, but the words miscarriage or in french fausse couche, both strike me as being a negative connotation of the physical and emotional complexity of losing a child. In French, fausse couche is the term used to describe a pregnancy loss. If we translate these two words, it means false and the short version of to give birth.... If you break down the word miscarriage mis - means mistakenly, wrongly or badly and carriage is a means of conveyance (carry). Could using these words inadvertently make us believe that our bodies are incapable of carrying a child, or even more, that we have done something wrong? Or that our experience of physically losing our child is far less validated from that of giving birth to baby with a heartbeat ? I understand there are medical terms to define all things, but maybe this medical term is something we should only use in a medical setting? Perhaps we can choose words that can offer compassion? I personally tend to say pregnancy loss or in French " une perte de grossesse". Two simple words that do not imply anything other than the harsh and most often, traumatic reality that someone is no longer pregnant with a child. These two words offer a space, for which empathy and compassion can pour into without judgement, shame, or guilt because THIS should be the foundation of emotional and physical healing and support for those grieving a pregnancy or infant loss. Let’s also be reminded that ALL pregnancy and infant losses merit this foundation of emotional and physical support, no matter the race, the culture, the socio-economic status, the accessibility to healthcare, or the nature of the loss. Let's be compassionate #pregnancyloss #pregnancylossawareness #pregnancylosssupport

Alright Friends! Thank you so much for all the interest in the Mama - Let's Stroll class starting next week! I'm excited to announce that I am adding a second class! This one will start next Wednesday morning (September 16th) at 9:00am!... 6-week stroller workout class taking place outdoors! We'll be meeting once a week, on Wednesday mornings. This class is for you if: You have a stroller or not You are using a baby carrier instead Your child is a baby or a toddler You are postpartum without a baby (because you are also navigating postpartum) I'll be modifying the exercices to meet your current needs, energy levels, symptoms, aches and pains, and goals. So don't let any of this stop you from joining! As I’ve mentioned before, walking is considered a low-impact exercise therefore it can still place some stress on your pelvic floor depending on where you are on your postpartum journey. So I do require that you receive your postpartum clearance from your physician or from a pelvic health physiotherapist if you are in the early phase of postpartum so that we know how to manage your progression. For all the details, or to save your spot (they went fast last time), click on the link in the bio! This is going to be fun Friends

Who’s with me? I have this discussion with a lot of womxn, especially mothers who are feeling overwhelmed and oftentimes don’t notice this feeling until the end of the day because... Your day may have been chaotic.... Your work day has been overwhelming (Yes, you too stay-at-home Mama!). You’re feeling overtouched (Hello Mamas!) The stimulation of noise, and touch, and smell, and lights is just too much. You’re asking yourself what’s for freaking supper? All the things, because social norms that are placed on us womxn is engraved in us whether we notice them or not (another topic, for another day). So Mama, take five. Lay on the floor, in your bed, in your office, and breathe. Just breathe. Notice where you are holding tension and let that shit gooooooooo. Let that weight drop into the floor. Let the floor support all of that stuff. And that list you’re trying to mentally compose in your head of what you’ll be doing in 10 minutes, or an hour from now, or what groceries you need to buy, or if you have enough frozen milk for the baby. DON’T WRITE THE LIST. Just breathe. Swipe to see a few of my favourite poses that are programmed in all of the exercise classes and personal programs. I like to incorporate these in between exercises especially on the days where you may be feeling achy and symptomatic. Try it out. Let me know how it feels!
