Well, hey there! We've been a bit quieter this year - it's been a nose-to-the-grindstone kind of summer for us. Plans are underway to remove a couple dangerous trees from the property, and to chop up a heck of a lot of wood before the snow flies. In the meantime, we hope you're staying cozy with a warm drink, as we enjoy the autumn colours... What's your favourite fall cottage beverage? We're big for hot morning coffee with a little somethin' somethin' (), or a warm apple cider!
A couple of photos taken by our first guests of the season. (Scroll down to see the full list of potential upgrades and to leave us your suggestions in the comments!) You'll notice the living room looks a little different: the soft seats are covered with sheets that are washed in between each set of guests, and there's a new vintage lamp!... The picnic area is a family favourite for outdoor arts and crafts, or lunchtime cook-outs. As we look forward to next year, we're wondering what the next upgrade should be? Our major project, scheduled for 2023-2024, is to underpin the cottage and put in a proper foundation... In the meantime, potential upgrades could include: - installing a new refrigerator on the main floor (spoiler: scheduled for fall 2020!) - installing low-voltage lighting along the steps to the lake - installing some kind of bug net/gazebo affair over the outdoor picnic area - swapping out our old toilet for a new dual-flush toilet - installing a second washroom in the basement (now that we have the septic holding tank installed!) - moving the wood stove indoors and installing it properly with chimney, etc. - installing an outdoor shower (for glorious morning wake-up showers overlooking the lake, or cleaning up messy feet before going indoors) - redoing the water's-edge shed - building a new work shed and wood-storing hut Other ideas or suggestions? What would be the #1 upgrade YOUR family would appreciate?
FIREWORKS - NEW BYLAWS IN EFFECT Dear Guests and Future Guests, Please note that new bylaws are in place legislating the use of fireworks and crackers. A $300 fine can be levied for fireworks/crackers set off outside the permitted dates and times. Please see the link below for details.... While fireworks/crackers might be out for your vacation, sparklers are still ok (and they make for fantastic long-exposure photos). :) https://www.highlandseast.ca//fireworks-by-law-and-restric
That's one big hole! Swipe to see the progression. Hard to believe that the guys got this whole project done in 36 hours in the extreme heat this past weekend. Note: install time does not include the time required to design and build the barrel holding tank.... #cottagelife #cottage #hardwork #construction #septic #plumbing
New boats!! We are thrilled to introduce two new self-propelled water crafts to our cottage lineup: Perception Rambler tandem kayak FutureBeach WaterBee paddleboat... These two rugged crafts feature self-bailing holes (no more puddles) and comfy seats. The WaterBee is a model of paddleboat no longer manufactured, but it was and remains one of the best-designed paddleboats yet, preferred by rental agencies because of its durability and ease of use. We sourced ours from Bon Echo Canoes (@landolakesoutfitters) and are sooooo thankful! Please be gentle with our yellow giant. Our Rambler (@perceptionkayak) is an exciting new purchase - we are grateful for this gift, and excited to give it a spin on the lake when the paddles arrive! This kayak is incredibly stable and will be ideal for touring around on the lake. #cottagelife #cottage #cottagerentalscanada #cottageprep #kayak #paddleboat #haliburtonhighlands #kawarthas #salernolake @ The McIntosh Cottage
