Ja tak til grimme tomater - og andre grimme grøntsager i butikkerne! Over 75 tons grimme tomater er nu reddet: På grund af den ekstremt varme sommer i Danmark... har der været stor overproduktion af tomater - samt også de grimme tomater, som normalt ikke kunne sælges i de danske supermarkeder. Danmarks største tomatproducent Alfred Pedersen & Søn gik i maj måned sammen med detailkæderne Salling Group og REMA 1000 samt foreningen Stop Spild Af Mad i bestræbelserne på at få solgt "grimme tomater, som normalt ikke kan sælges i de danske supermarkeder. Og det har virket i stor stil: Ifølge tomatproducenten er der indtil nu solgt over 50 tons grimme tomater, svarende til 100.000 bakker, mens over 25 tons overskudstomater er blevet brugt til tomatketchup. Siden maj måned er der i alt reddet over 75 tons grimme tomater, som kunne havde endt som affald.
