The NB Box

Would it surprise you to learn that the hardest part of this job for me is product selection? I have a hard time predicting what you will all love and what will sell well. Sometimes I am reluctant to bring things in, and then when I do they become bestsellers. Other times, I think something will be a hit and it's not. This last year, I've come to rely heavily on our first hire, Kyla @beepnut, for this sort of job. She's one of those creatives that just knows what people want She's also great at putting together bundles for the curated boxes, and every recent box has been her design. Delegate to elevate, people!

If you saw on stories yesterday we were *finally* able to successfully upgrade the website so that you can now order multiple gifts and ship them to multiple different addresses in one transaction. Additionally you may now also notice an option to upgrade your cards at checkout. We always print your messages on small postcards included in every box (for free!). But because MANY have asked, we are also adding a paid option to upgrade to full sized 5x7 greeting cards, locally ...designed and printed. Currently the selection is slim, but we will be expanding it in time. Website upgrades might be the most boring kind of news, but generally this is the stuff that takes us a LOT of work and trial and error before we can let it go "live" on the site. These are also the kinds of decisions and upgrades we make based 100% on your feedback. We are really grateful when you take the time to let us know ways we can improve - it's a labour of love, and we love to do it.

A friendly reminder that if you ordered a box for local pickup before Sunday, it's probably at our pickup location @halifaxseed waiting for you! We send out emails when your orders are dropped off, but if you haven't gotten one and think you should have check your junk mail. A lot of them end up there for some reason Halifax Seed is open regular hours 9-5 this week until Christmas Eve, which they are open 9-1. Then they will be closed until the 29th. Please plan accordingly and collect your gifts! Thanks!

Just a reminder that today is the last day to order to have boxes shipped before Christmas! Also tonight at 8pm there will be a story sale of some custom built boxes that we have packed but weren't sold for one reason or another. Thank you thank you thank you for all your support this season!

T-minus two weeks till Christmas. Here is the deal on shipping: it might be too late to make it to Ontario or out west at this point. So far, things have been moving OK but we are starting to see major depots (Ontario in particular) bottleneck. Anything being shipped within the Maritimes is still being shipped in a timely manner. I can tell you that @canadapostagram is working diligently and around the clock. They are literally working all the time - we have started getting deliveries on Sundays. I wish I had a definitive answer for you. I don't. And we make no guarantees. But who doesn't LOOOOOVE getting a few straggler gifts after Christmas anyway?

YOU HAVE BLOWN US AWAY. We received hundreds of orders since we reopened this morning and once again we have had to close down to catch up. We will reopen on Monday at 9am. We will continue to close daily when we have reached our maximum capacity for the day and will reopen the following day at 9am.... This ensures that the orders we do accept are making it out of here in a timely manner given how close we are to Christmas. We truly TRULY appreciate the understanding and support.

Every square inch of this place looks like a madhouse and we love it. There's hardly any room to work in here anymore, but we are managing. This week we welcomed a few new products to the shop which you can now find online! We are constantly restocking so check with us if something you've been eyeing is suddenly sold out - chances are it won't be for long. @ New Brunswick

Let's talk about SHIPPING... @canadapostagram sent an email out to small businesses today saying they are expecting a year like no other for parcel deliveries this Christmas. Truth be told, they've been slammed since the pandemic hit, and with social distancing protocols in all of their facilities, it's been extra difficult. More parcels + more personnel restrictions = slower shipping times. I KNEW and expected this would happen, and I've been working since June to try and ge...t ahead of the holidays as much as possible. Which is why we were launching the holiday collection early (Nov 1st), but now I'm even thinking if I can bump it up a week, we might do that. I know it sounds crazy, I totally get that, but if you are planning to ship your gifts outside the Maritimes, expect it to take a month. Plan to be DONE your holiday shopping by the first week of November. And not only if you shop with us. Whoever you are shopping and shipping with - do it early this year.

It's been one week since we launched the holiday line and it's been absolutely insane ever since. We are presently sold out of a couple of things, but not to worry everything will be getting restocked this week PLUS new products are being added all the time. And just to answer a very FAQ, the fudge from @cobblers_lane has a 10 week shelf life. On top of this, we get it fresh every week! And if all that weren't enough, we are currently less than 8 weeks away from Christmas, so not to worry - it will arrive fresh and ready to go, no matter when you order. It also freezes like a dream in case you wondered.

A walk down memory lane....we renovated this space to suit the business in February and I've never really posted a proper "after". I have been waiting until the tables were cleared off and everything was clean to snap a gorgeous photo of our space, but that just isn't reality. We are so happy to be busy all the time - it's a dream! So I'll just have to show you our space how it really is. Always in use, always full of products waiting to be shelved and boxes ready to be shipp...ed. It's a far cry from where we started! All these photos are (believe it or not) taken from the same vantage point and that lone shelving unit in the last photo was my first setup! I used to pack gifts on the top of two Rubbermaid totes that were stacked on top of each other. Rob added LED track lights and installed that long wooden shelving unit about a year ago (pic #3) and I thought I died and went to heaven! Now we're bursting at the seams and we've easily got five times as much space as we ever did before @ Saint John, New Brunswick

Someone once told me that everyday chores become something you look forward to when you have items in your house you love to do them with. It's worth a shot, no?

Holiday sneak peeks. Don't forget our entire holiday line will go live on November 1st. If you are shipping anything to Ontario or further west, we HIGHLY encourage you to get it in the mail by November 15th. All postal carriers and even couriers just are not able to meet shipping standards post-Covid and they will certainly be overwhelmed with parcels this holiday season. If you're shipping within the Maritimes, you're good. Shipping times have been quick within the Atlantic bubble even during peak times through Covid (like Mother's Day).

Thankful for hot coffee, a clean house, full bellies and time with family. And thankful to everyone doing their part to ensure New Brunswick gets through the latest upswing in Covid-19 cases. If your Thanksgiving plans have been dampened by the recent outbreaks, or you're missing dinner with your family or friends this year, I am thinking of you and I am so grateful for you for helping to keep the rest of us safe.
