WORDS WRITTEN IN BOLD AND ALL CAPS BECAUSE WE’RE TELLING YOU ABOUT SOMETHING VERY EXCITING We have good news: effective August 4th, Amelia Marie Newbert joined the Old Trout family* in the newly created role of creative facilitator. Amelia will be the point person for a new rehearsal hall, maker space and arts hub being set up by the Old Trouts in Calgary which will be available to artists and companies in Fall 2020 thanks to the generous support of the great folks at the C...algary Foundation and our super cool landlord Spruce Developments. Amelia joins the Old Trouts with over 15 years of experience in theatre management having worked in major arts organizations across the country including as Technical Director at the National Arts Centre and Producer & Operations Manager at Theatre Calgary, among others. She is also currently the Managing Producer for the Festival of Animated Objects. She is a passionate advocate for accessibility and inclusion in the arts. She is the co-founder of Skipping Stone, a nationally recognized organization that supports trans and gender diverse youth and is a recipient of the Grand Heart Award in recognition of her significant contributions to advancing LGBTQ2+ human rights in Alberta. We here at the Old Trout would like to publicly announce our support for the 35/50 Initiative and the goals outlined in their letter to the community earlier this month. Different artists and different companies will be able to meet these challenges in different ways; the important thing is to hold the ideals to heart, to be willing to engage in an ongoing and long-term conversation, to make real changes, and to hold ourselves and each other accountable. Thank you very much to the members of the 35/50 Initiative who took the time to meet with us and work out a way forward together. Next week well be able to announce some concrete steps were taking. Stay tuned.

Black Lives Matter. We here at the Trouts are poor Facebookers but would like to express our unequivocal support for black people, people of colour, Indigenous people, and the Black Lives Matter movement that is gathering force across the world... we are humbled by it all. We know we are not innocent bystanders, we are priveleged because we are white, and we are participants in a racist system that perpetuates injustice. We are deeply sorry, but we know saying sorry is just the first step. We pledge to listen, to learn, and to act. We are all in this together. Were working now to figure out concrete steps that we can take to make a difference in our own tiny corner of the world. Well be posting again soon.
