Conversation with my 5yr old Emma. Emma- Candy is not food, it's just candy. Me- Yep, just cause you can eat it, doesn't mean it's food. Emma- I think macaroni and cheese is kind of like candy. ... Me- (proud momma moment) See more

How about a Peanut Butter Cup Shake to start your day! This is seriously delicious and tastes like a milk shake, my husband loves it and it delivers both protein and healthy fats in one delicious combination. In a blender or bullet add- ~1-2 scoops of vanilla or cake batter flavour protein powder (make sure you enjoy the taste of the powder on its own it makes the shakes that much better) I use designer whey cake batter flavour. ~1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese (Very important... it gives the shake a creamy texture) ~1-2 tbsp of cocoa powder(depends how chocolatey you want it) ~1 large tbsp of natural peanut butter (I use earth balance coconut oil peanut butter it's good!) ~5 large ice cubes or 10 small ice cubes ~2tbsp of Truvia (natural stevia sweetener I buy at extra foods) ~Fill to the top with lowfat milk (skim, almond or coconut) ~1/4 tsp xanthan gum (a natural fibre for thickening available at the bulk barn it's optional, it just makes it nice and thick!) ~A dash of vanilla or butter extract (my life is better for having discovered butter extract it makes these shakes taste awesome! butter flavouring may work as well I haven't tried it but I got my butter extract at the Unami shop a specialty grocer in Lethbridge. Blend really well and enjoy! Happy healthy Wednesday:) See more
BROWNIE BATTER OATMEAL This was my breakfast this morning! I made it last night and it was ready when I got home from morning class. My husband LOVED it! So did my kids. I'm not gonna lie I actually licked the bowl! It's super easy, you don't even cook the oatmeal just mix everything up and refrigerate overnight or at least 2 hours. You can serve warm or cold, I like it cold. This is a great recovery meal it's low in fat with moderate healthy carbs and the benefits of cocoa a...nd Greek yogurt. Give it a try! -1 cup of rolled oats -1 cup of almond milk or lowfat milk of your choice - 3-4 Tbsp of cocoa depending how chocolatey you want it (any kind with do fine but the raw cocoa is a great super food and tasted the same as baking cocoa I got mine at Olivers.) -1/2 cup 0% plain Greek yogurt -1/8 tsp salt (I use sea salt, it has many health benefits) -1/4 cup of plain, vanilla or chocolate protein powder or just add 1/4 more rolled oats. Any of these options work well. (If your using plain protein powder or just adding more oats try 1/2 tsp vanilla to round out the flavour.) Sweetener of your choice to taste. (I use Truvia baking blend it's all natural and I love the taste. I used 1/4 cup or so. It's about 3 to 4 stevia packets or you can use honey if your not concerned about sugar content just make sure it's sweet enough. Mix everything in a bowl until smooth. Refrigerate overnight or min 2 hours. Enjoy! See more
