Monthly contributions from Jackpot City Bingo and the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association make it possible for Petrolia Discovery volunteers to restore and maintain our buildings. Check out the new doors on the blacksmith shop.

Did you know we have an Open Die Forging Hammer at Petrolia Discovery? You may have walked by and wondered "what the heck is that?" It's quite a tool. There's a link to an educational youtube video in the comments. ENJOY! Open die forging is the oldest method of metalworking known to man. Also known as hand forging, smith forging, hammer forging, and flat-die forging, open die forging has considerably evolved over the span of hundreds of years as technology and machinery has advanced.

In addition to ingenuity and hard work, it takes a significant amount of resources to maintain an historic oil field. Monthly revenues from Jackpot Bingo are integral to the care and keeping of our history.

Petrolia Discovery thanks our dedicated BINGO Volunteers for their time and commitment. "A decision was made last month not to have volunteers back in cGaming sites given the ongoing health risks. Instead during this time charities and non-profits are expected to complete participation requirements. These flexible requirements have been communicated to all cGaming charities and must be done in each month a group is receiving funds." Ontario Charitable Gaming Association Petr...olia Discovery receives significant funding from monthly Jackpot Bingo. These proceeds are used for the restoration and continuing maintenance of the historic oil field. In 2019 Petrolia Discovery received $16K towards these projects. Over the coming months you will notice us use the logos for both OCGA and Jackpot Bingo on our Facebook page and we'll highlight some of the projects made possible with this ongoing funding. This is part of the new requirement for charities to continue to receive these funds. We are happy they have found an interim solution for all worthy charities and non- profits to continue to receive funds. See more

Anyone looking for a winter project? We would love a volunteer to clean up these gems. The kids find them fascinating so it would be great for them to actually function for next season. Message us here if you can help.

Petrolia Discovery may be closed for the season but you can still learn about our local oil history by visiting Oil Museum of Canada (call ahead to book an appointment) and by watching these amazing videos. Enjoy!

Petrolia Discovery’s 2020 season is done but rest assured, we will continue to work through the winter months on more restorations and hope you will visit us again in 2021. We’ve got some really exciting things planned. We are still available for tours by appointment, just give us a call or send a message. We are happy to accommodate groups and families whenever we can. If you prefer to do your local history learning indoors this winter we encourage you to visit Oil Museum of Canada, they have some incredible displays. Welcome Linda and Art and all your backyard critters. You won't miss the migrating birds or hibernators this winter if you have one of these in your garden. Linda & Art Linda and Art were both born Hard Oilers, growing up in the Lambton County area, Linda in Petrolia while Art outside of Alvinston. Living and working in the area, after completing high school at LCCVI, they met and joined forces in midlife, celebrating family and travels, retiring comfortably in Petrolia Comb...ining the skills developed throughout our lives we were able to turn them into a hobby that we both enjoy to add fun accents in our flower beds. Travel and an appreciation for the abundance of nature, in our local area, provides a constant flow of inspiration. Feeding the numerous species of birds, encountered in our back yard, combined with observing the varied types of birds encountered on our world travels, serves to ignite our creativity. Our wish is to share pleasure with others via our yard birds and other critters. See more

We've got a bit of something for everyone. Introducing Janine! She crochets cozy ponchos. Great for movie watching on a cold day or keep one in the car for an unexpected change in the weather. So colourful and cozy! I am the wife of the very nice man who works at the front door at the grocery store most days. John and I made Petrolia our forever home about 7 years ago. I previously spent most of my adult life up north in Thunder Bay. I am an Ultrasound Technologist, a competi...tive Powerlifter, and a Grandmother of 4 wonderful grandchildren. I first started crocheting ponchos when recovering from powerlifting at the World Powerlifting Championships in Belarus in 2017. I'm sad to say that Bluewater Health is yet to take advantage of my 30 years experience as an ultrasound tech, so although I live 5 minutes from my hometown hospital I have to work out of town. During the nights I spend by myself I usually get a poncho made while listening to my books. I love the Hobby. All of my grandchildren have several each, even my grandsons he wraps up while watching TV. I was qualified to lift in the World Bench Press Championships in Pilsen In May but then Covid happened. I had to channel my energy somewhere. So now I have made over 60 Ponchos!. I am almost 60 years old, I can bench press 155 lbs and crochet ponchos. I can't wait to meet more Petrolians and possibly share some crafts. Janine tells us these can have rows added so they grow with your kids, she also has adult ponchos. See more
