Like most everything in 2020, Pride is different this year. We’re missing the parades and parties and all the usual ways we would support our LGBTQ+ communities - thanks to the global pandemic. As well, there’s been the (rightful) focus on the Black Lives Matter movement this year. But we didn’t want Pride month in Gibsons, and specifically today, to pass without acknowledgement. June 28th links the LGBTQ+ and BLM movements together with the Stonewall Riots 51 years ago, whic...h stemmed from resistance to police brutality and kicked off 50 years of protest and celebration for LGBTQ+ Pride. Additionally, we recognize that one of the most marginalized communities within the LGBTQ+ continue to be black trans women. As allies for both communities still fighting for not only equality but for the right to live, we stand beside and shout alongside all that need more voices.
