Tomorrow Night! Hello all, and thanks for your continued support during quarantine, through virtual cinema rentals and many kind messages wishing us a safe return! Tomorrow we open our doors to entertain guests once again, and we’d like to share some of our new protocols. We have setup plexiglass between you and our servers at box office and concession, we will be wiping down our debit and credit machines between transactions, and wiping down seat handles and backs between sh...ows, as we’ve spaced out showtimes a bit to allow for safer cleanup! At this time we will not be opening our box office until every guest from the previous show has left and we’ve had time to clean. We will all be donning masks and gloves for your safety. All the pop is fresh and the popcorn is waitin to be popped! The whole building including the bathrooms, the walls, and each seat in the auditorium has been meticulously cleaned for your comfort, and all magazines have been temporarily hidden to ensure less person to person contact. We’ve upgraded our straws to the single-use wrapped compostable variety, and have implemented a comprehensive in-between show cleaning regiment! There’s also hand sanitizer available at each sink in the washrooms and at the box office and concession. We ask that y’all wear your own masks and tap-tap-tapping those debit and credit machines is preferred, for quicker service and less chance of spread. We also ask of you to maintain a three-seat-between you and other movie-goer parties (you can totally sit beside whoever you came with unless you don’t wanna) and a row in between front and back. A handy instruction video has been made which will cycle before each film begins. Because of this our maximum attendance per show will be 75 people up until (and possibly after) stage 3. Thank you so much Calgary, and hope to see you at the movies! June 19 to 25th Military Wives (PG) Fri: 6:45pm Sat: 1:00 & 6:45pm Sun: 1:00 & 6:00pm Mon to Thurs: 6:45pm The Hunt (TBR) Fri: 9:30pm Sat: 3:30 & 9:30pm Sun: 3:30 & 8:30pm Mon to Thurs: 9:15pm https://youtu.be/H1oa8nrcVc0

Here’s two new (to us) films available at theplaza.ca! Last weeks selections of great docs & originals are still available there too! DONA FLOR AND HER TWO HUSBANDS (1976) Based on the novel by Jorge Amado, this Brazilian comedy follows the strange events that befall Doña Flor (Sonia Braga) after she is left a widow by the death of her wild, irresponsible husband. (He died after another wanton night of carousing) Attempting to marry more wisely the second time around, Doña F...lor weds a stable, but boring, pharmacist who has no interest in sex. When she discovers that her new sex life is less than satisfying, Doña Flor is visited by the sexy ghost of her late husband. This film is in Portuguese with English subtitles. ~ Iotis Erlewine, Rovi CARO DIARIO (1994) Nanni Moretti recounts three entries from his diary in the hilarious and intimate self-reflective comedy CARO DIARIO, which follows the filmmaker’s musing on cinema atop a Vespa, a trip to the Aeolian Islands to work on his new screenplay, and his search for health and wellness after breaking out in a nagging skin rash. Winner of Best Director at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, CARO DIARIO is a heroic tale, told with a child’s wide-eyed wonder (Film Comment) from a modern movie man, for whom images have effaced the boundary between life and art (The New Yorker). Here are the links: https://fmplus.video/plazatheatre-donaflor https://fmplus.video/plazatheatre-carodiario We’ll see you at the movies!

THE BOOKSELLERS 99min... https://watch.eventive.org/do/play/5ec59b8c1330ae06625f3d8a Antiquarian booksellers are part scholar, part detective and part businessperson, and their personalities and knowledge are as broad as the material they handle. They also play an underappreciated yet essential role in preserving history. THE BOOKSELLERS takes viewers inside their small but fascinating world, populated by an assortment of obsessives, intellects, eccentrics and dreamers. THIS IS NOT A MOVIE 106min https://watch.eventive.org/do/play/5ec59b1f7a18560085d63796 For more than 40 years, journalist Robert Fisk has reported on some of the most violent and divisive conflicts in the world. MYSTIFY: MICHAEL HUTCHENCE 108min https://watch.eventive.org/do/play/5ec59c26959e510946cce7ba At the height of his internationally renowned career, a sudden blow to the head robs the famously sensual rock star of his most cherished senses. A series of personal battles follows, ending tragically with his death at the age of 37, the night before embarking on a world tour. PROPHECY 80min https://watch.eventive.org/do/play/5ec59bd578bf58064ffa805d A unique and intimate exploration of a single oil painting, filmed over four intensive months. What starts as a blank canvas, emerges Peter Howson's monumental oil painting - Prophecy. LUCKY GRANDMA 87min https://kinonow.com/lucky-grandma-plaza-calgary In the heart of Chinatown, New York, an ornery, chain-smoking, newly widowed 80-year-old Grandma (Tsai Chin) is eager to live life as an independent woman, despite the worry of her family. When a local fortune teller (Wai Ching Ho) predicts a most auspicious day in her future, Grandma decides to head to the casino and goes all in, only to land herself on the wrong side of luck... suddenly attracting the attention of some local gangsters. Desperate to protect herself, Grandma employs the services of a bodyguard from a rival gang (Corey Ha) and soon finds herself right in the middle of a Chinatown gang war. #seeyouatthemovies

Hey there folks, as you know the Plaza has been closed for some time due to the covid 19 pandemic. If you’re working, thank you, and we hope you’re not working too hard! And if you’re not working, also thank you, hopefully you haven’t gone completely mad yet! That being said, as there is still no...t much sight for us in regards to reopening, with the help of some fine distributors we’re introducing Virtual Cinema! Every friday we will open new and exotic features not readily available anywhere else, Just click on the links below to check out the trailers and purchase a film for viewing in the safety of your own home. You’ll be supporting both us and the film companies with the purchase of a ticket, and get to watch something a little off the beaten path! Unfortunately there isn’t any of our delicious popcorn available yet, so you’ll just have to make due.. ZOMBI CHILD 103min Haiti, 1962: A man is brought back from the dead only to be sent to the living hell of the sugarcane fields. In Paris, 55 years later, at the prestigious Légion d’honneur boarding school, a Haitian girl confesses an old family secret to a group of new friends - never imagining that this strange tale will convince a heartbroken classmate to do the unthinkable... -RT https://fmplus.video/plazatheatre-zombichild CORPUS CHRISTI (BOZE CIALO) 116min Corpus Christi is the story of a 20-year-old Daniel who experiences a spiritual transformation while living in a youth detention centre. He wants to become a priest but this is impossible because of his criminal record. When he is sent to work at a carpenters workshop in a small town, on arrival he dresses up as a priest and accidentally takes over the local parish. The arrival of the young, charismatic preacher is an opportunity for the local community to begin the healing process after a tragedy that happened there. -RT https://fmplus.video/plazatheatre-corpuschristi Thanks again, and enjoy the show!
