The Pug & Poodle Canine Esthetics 27.01.2021

Good day Rescue Friends, Awhile back we had posted about some horses that needed help with rehoming. Though all the horses had found homes or foster placement, ...the happy ending we were hoping for did not happen. Flash came into foster care with some lameness in his hind end but seemed overall in good health. As an older boy we were initially concerned about his transition, but he seemed to be getting around fine and eating well. Flash had difficulty settling. After being removed from his forever home of 20 + yrs and losing his horsey family members, he was just out of sorts despite his current partner mare. We ordered a vet visit to ensure Flash was in good health and comfortable. He seemed to have some lameness, but the veterinary staff believed it was manageable and treated him with Previcox to manage his old man pain. A few weeks passed and Flash stopped pacing. In fact, flash stopped moving at all. He seemed very sore and completely out of sorts. He would not leave the shelter, and his movements became shortened and very painful. We had the vets back out the prognosis was devastating. Flash had developed laminitis. He had injured himself trying to manage (we believe a fall in the night) and his struggle to get up had caused the inflammation to elevate and he had started to develop cellulitis in his rear legs. His heart rate was elevated, and he was struggling. At his age and the stress he was under with the move, the laminitis, as well as having difficulty maintaining coat and weight in the winter according to his previous family, we made the humane decision to let Flash pass. The recovery described by the vets would be long, painful, and not guaranteed. But it gets harder. As his foster mom held his head and whispered to him while he left, she noticed something strange on his tongue. On further investigation, it was discovered that flash had also been dealing with a very intense case of cancer in his mouth. He had growths throughout his tongue and inner cheeks. This poor sweet soul. He lost his family. He lost his friends and ultimately his life. Flash was loved unconditionally until his last breath. By his original human, who had lost her home and her husband and had to relinquish her lifelong friend, unable to continue his care. He was adored by his foster family, though he struggled, he was met every morning with a smile and a small cookie. Hugs and brushing when he could tolerate it. He was held so close in the end. He was hugged and pet by his new people, her tears running down his nose as she kissed him goodbye. He was told he was a good boy. He did so well, and it was ok to let go. His pain was over. The photo is seconds after he let go. What a parting gift from such an amazing soul. Though Flash has left us after only a short time, the hurt has continued and has us remembering. Remembering and reflecting on animals not as lucky as Flash, who instead of warm hugs and sweet nothings, get sent to shiver amongst the masses at auction marts, or crammed into trailers on their way to be processed for meat. In pain, no warmth, no respect. For a lifetime of companionship, that is the thanks. Because it is easier to be paid for their passing, then to pay for the passing at home. WE chose to pay. Flashes Vet bills exceeded $1000.00 dollars in the end. Though the initial visit was covered by a fundraiser, there was not enough to carry over to his final rest. We are hoping to cover the cost of Flashes humane release, $776.00. And to keep funding the humane care and final rest of the animals we receive when needed. If you would like to support Flashes Final Rest please e-transfer to [email protected] with the Memo being Flash. Thank you to everyone who contributed to his care until the end. Thank you to the amazing Veterinarians at Td Equine. Thank you for the outstanding compassion and care of Just Passing. Thank you.

**Update: Safe landing found for both! TJ is going to a foster home with and owner well versed and experienced with rehab in founder horses. Flash is going tooo...ko...Us! What, you thought we would stop at fundraising? This boy is soooooo handsome. But has some issues in his pelvis / back and front knees that need some attention Help us get the funds together to keep this boy pain free and comfortable! New pics in the comments. Barkadia will be donating tips for the next 4 grooming weeks ( month would be cheating cause we are away and wanna be fair)towrds the care of these boys. For responsible rescue, it is always best to have funds in place for immediate vet care. It doesn't take much, $5 a person would go an insane way! We have almost 3000 views! SHOW ME THE MONEY!!! Thank you L for your Donation! $167.33 down ,$332.67 to go! ** As some of you know, my passion for rescue and animals is not limited to just dogs. We have been made aware of a pair of geldings in need of support. It is a tragic situation with the passing of the owner , and homing boys in their condition is difficult. People don't want the broken ones. They don't want to pay the bills, they don't want the hassle It is heartbreaking after a lifetime of love and care, that they are now left desperate for a safe landing. But there is hope. Both these boys are in need of vet attention, and we are trying to raise funds to get them help. That is the first step in to a safe landing. After that they will need placement, which is easier to do if we know what is going on medically. Want to save a life? Do you know someone with a soft spot for the underdog who has pasture and wants a buddy? We are accepting Donations through Barkadia For the care of these boys so they can be safe. My current goal is $500 ( but I think we can do better ) I believe in our beauty little community. BARKADIANS UNITE! Donations can be made in shop, or etransfer to [email protected]. 100% of donations will go directly to the care of these 2 geldings .
