THIEF FACING 18 CHARGES FOR FOR CAMPBELL RIVER CRIME SPREE: A prolific petty thief is facing more than a dozen charges in relation to break and enters and thefts from vehicles in Campbell River. This week, the Crown approved 18 charges against Shauna Adams, including Possession of Stolen Property, Use of Stolen Credit Cards, Mischief, Theft Under $5000, Break and Enter to a Residence, and Trespass at Night. Adams was arrested by police on October 15 after an attempted break ...and enter in the 1200 block of Shoppers Row. At the time, Adams was also under investigation for several other property related offences including thefts from motor vehicles dating back to September 2nd, 2020. Adams is currently in police custody. Const. Maury Tyre said property crimes are frustrating and traumatic for people. Many incidents of thefts from vehicles can be attributed to doors left unlocked, but the owners are still left with a sense of an invasion of their personal space and well being. "We were quite pleased to be able to have something to show for our investigative efforts and be able to hold the correct person accountable in some of these matters," he said. "The resulting investigations that come from typically minor thefts are actually very labour intensive endeavours, requiring multiple recorded statements, statement transcription, video forensics, certified bank statements (if bank cards were stolen), and sometimes Police Dog Services and Forensic analysts. "Typically these types of cases are run by General Duty investigators and the investigations are run concurrently while officers continue to respond to 50 to 70 files a day at the detachment. " Adams will answer the charges in court at a later date.

FIRST NATION PLANS TO BLOCK LOGGING TRUCKS NEAR GOLD RIVER: A First Nation near Gold River is planning to blockade logging trucks from using Highway 28 through their reserve. The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation said this week they will block logging trucks because of an ongoing dispute with the province and logging companies over logging traffic. Highway 28 runs from Campbell River to Gold River, and a portion passes through Ahaminaquus Indian Reserve Number 12. Western Fo...rest Products uses the highway for logging operations, and the nation says it has not been adequately compensated by the company or province for allowing access. In a formal statement the chief and council said that under the Indian Act, they have the authority to control all use and access to their reserve lands. There's no word yet on if blockades have been set up, or what else the nation plans to do. Western and the province told CBC yesterday they were speaking with First Nations representatives and hope to find a solution that works for all parties as soon as possible.
