This is me- I'm the owner, graphic designer, web designer, social media manager, photographer and seamstress (what???) behind this business. If you asked me a few years ago if I'd be doing all those things and growing a successful apparel business I would not have believed you. It's pretty amazing to me how a person with some determination can learn new skills, try them out and find success. I definitely never thought I'd be sewing anything, let alone selling items I've s...ewn, but here we go. In looking at adding toques to the line up for winter I reached out to a few amazing makers to see if we could collaborate but I've learned that there isn't much room for a profit share in handmade goods. So, just like pretty much everything else at The Red Barn Co., this became a DIY project. Saying hello to fall and goodbye to bad hair days with the new line up of sweater knit beanies . #theredbarnco

Here's how this design was created... A few weeks ago, while having our morning coffee, I asked my farmer/hockey coach husband for some terms to describe the zones a hockey player can shoot at on the net. 10 minutes later and here you have it... a fresh new design for kids and adults available on the website now . ... #theredbarnco

If you've been following along for a while, you may have noticed some new product photos on the website. It feels like there are a million aspects to this business and like a true farmer, I DIY almost all of it. The photography is a piece that has really intimidated me. There is so much to learn and I've really only scratched the surface with my current skills. My farmhouse has one of those lovely living rooms that is only used on special occasions. It faces south and ha...s fantastic light- So clearly the call was to convert it into a make-shift studio, complete with two new backdrops (white and aqua). I saved the aqua just for the rink collection and kept everything else on the website on neutral backdrops. These beautiful models are my lovely friends who agreed to come over for coffee and a photoshoot in the past couple weeks. We had so much fun shooting, complete with lots of coffee, good visits and kiddos playing in the background. #theredbarnco

The past few days have sure felt like fall around here . What's your favourite thing about fall? Is it the end of harvest , pumpkin spice, or maybe it's wearing a toque so you don't have to do your hair?! The shop is stocked with fresh hand made (by moi) sweater knit beanies for fall. Available in Black, Mint and Rust. Link to website in bio!... #theredbarnco

This is one of my all-time favourite harvest photos. It was a hard day, as most of them were in those days. Learning the ropes of being a new mom, plus adjusting to life on the farm was pretty tricky for me. Cooking a meal, packing it and taking it to the field all while feeding two babes and getting back home for bedtime felt like a huge challenge. Add to that, I was determined to do as much as I could from scratch (why oh why??) ... The reason I love this photo is because it was one of those moments when I felt like I was getting it- finding a groove with this whole farm mom/wife/go-fer thing. Kids at the table, happily eating and the Wiggles on for good measure. Thinking of all of you farm moms out there during these harvest days and hoping you're hitting your stride, whatever your role on the farm might be. Alysa
