Time changes all things. Photo of the lower garden today vs beginning of April before I had the brush cleared. Its so full of life down there now.. Aside from the sunflowers and tomatoes there are all sorts of wildflowers like spotted Joe pye weed, jewel weed (touch me not), primroses, goldenrod and a bunch I have to look up again. Bees buzzing everywhere and birds poking around the underbrush, while butterflies flit over my head. The tomatoes are taller than I am now, the s...unflowers tower over me. The blackberries, raspberries and peas are pretty much finished up for the season. Peppers and tomatoes still coming along. Some little creature has been munching away the sunflower seeds in the night, they leave lot to piles of shells on the backs of the nodding flower heads. :) I'm already planning next year's garden, a few changes to planting and techniques. I'm doing well by the way folks. Still have to take it easy to let things continue to heal, but the pain is mostly gone.. Only if I sneeze or cough now really. Staying mobile has definitely helped I think. Harvesting veggies certainly has kept me limber while not straining too hard. I hope you're all doing well out there. I'm planning to get back to active posting here later this weekend or early next week.

Some spectacular lightning last night.. Caught a few good bursts in a couple videos, there were some that I missed that simply took my breath away. This video has some longer gaps in the action but the symphony of insects keep the atmosphere rolling along with the sound of rain on our roof. Thanks to Mother Nature for the show.

UPDATE: Things are going pretty well. I finally ended up having my surgery on Wednesday. Turns out I had a double hernia, one just to the left of my bellybutton and another just below that. Both were repaired without complications. I spent the following night in the hospital and woke up Thursday morning to doctors from the surgical team letting me know that they recommended that I go home that day. Howdy folks, my life has taken a bit of a turn.. I'm currently admitted to KGH and am awaiting surgery for an epigastric hernia. My life is not in danger at this point, and I'm not currently in major pain (discomfort, yes) so far manageable with Tylenol. Things are likely going to be a bit slow here for a while though. I may still be posting some things for sale but delivery times will be a bit up in the air til I'm recovered. Hopefully a few weeks.. ... All the best to all you folks following The Red Door.

I remembered to bring my phone with me down to the blackberry pit. Some sunnies and other bright colours down in the lower garden which is a total jungle. :)

Found this beautiful io moth caterpillar today by the garden. We have cherry trees in that yard, which are a host plant for them, so we returned it to where we figure it came from. It will eventually turn into the moth shown below (pic taken on our front step early this year.)

Today's harvest! More Quebec 5 tomatoes, OSU Blue tomatoes and the first yellow pear tomato. :) Also a pile of various beans (mostly green pole bean of my father's) 1 lonely cucumber a few straggler snow peas and a little over 2 cups of blackberries. Taking some more photos tonight for a lunch time drop. Busy day tomorrow my lil sister is coming for a socially distanced visit! :)

Well the garden is producing, OSU blue and Quebec 5 tomatoes and a sweet potato squash. We've also had lots of beans, snow peas. Also found out something helpful, since our radishes bolted due to the heatwave a few weeks ago they were producing seed pods. They're edible and are like eating peas that taste like radishes. Well I pickled some of them, they're great! Ive also been working on building a lean to for our lawn tractor and yard tools. So far so good, using all reclai...med materials so far. :) How are you all doing out there? Smart Brockville Cast Iron skillet Pan 11 " Inch Number 9 with Heat Ring I grew up near Brockville, its a town with a lot of history. The fact that there was once a prosperous iron foundry there is part of that history. Here's a little more if you'd like to know: ... http://www.yesteryearstools.com/Ye/Smart%20Mfg.%20Co..html. The foundry ceased production in 1965, I believe this skillet with the non rounded "G" diamond logo and the "Smart" rather than "smart's" label put this skillet prior to 1922.. The heat ring is also a more rare feature in this era of production. The fact that it is a Canadian collectable with tons of history aside, this is a fantastic skillet. Seasoned 4 rounds and then used several times to make some very delicious pizza. :) When I found this Skillet it was caked in years and years of baked on carbon, I could barely make out the diamond logo. After multiple rounds of cleaning with a lye bath, lots of scrubbing and several rounds of seasoning and a good test run, this skillet is ready to go.
