Based on the January 19th, 2021 email from our association, the Ontario Osteopathic Association (OOA), We regret to inform you that the provincial government has informed us that they are not choosing to add more listings of health care practitioners to the list of those able to return to work in Ontario at this moment, as such the current lockdown phase has now been extended until February 19th, 2021. Your Practitioner will inform you as soon as a change may be implemented.... Any appointments that were scheduled will be cancelled (appts between January 25 - February 19, 2021). Please also be aware that the OOA is continuing to advocate on our behalf, and is dedicated to finding a solution to our current status, so that we may return to work and provide osteopathic care to those in need. We continue to ask that you help us bring awareness about Osteopathy to the government and gather more data to prove that osteopathy is essential to healthcare by completing the following survey. On Tuesday, the province announced that Ontario would enter into a state of emergency on Thursday while also issuing a stay-at-home order to residents. The order, which has come as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday and will last at least 28 days. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners are healthcare professionals who work hard to encourage optimal healing, recovery, and rehabilitation. The practice of osteopathy relies on skilled manual, ...non-invasive therapeutic techniques to assess and treat numerous conditions commonly presented in healthcare clinics. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners have extensive education and clinical training and often work closely with medical doctors and other healthcare professionals to provide a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Most importantly, Osteopathic Manual Practitioners work closely with and are relied upon by their patients to help improve their functional abilities as they heal from illness, disease, injury, or long periods of inactivity. During the current lockdown in Ontario, Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (OMPs) are not permitted to provide the important care and treatment their patients require, many of whom require manual osteopathy to alleviate pain and other life-altering symptoms that impact their daily lives. With the current Government of Ontario COVID-19 Regulations, Osteopathy is not deemed as an essential service like other health care modalities.
