The River Magazine 14.10.2020

How to access the River documentary being screened on October 3d: The River is a 17-minute short documentary centering around Faelan, a low-income poet and artist in Peterborough, Ont. Faelan is a regular contributor to The River Magazine, a local publication dedicated to showcasing the art and words of those living in low-income in the city. The film depicts Faelan's struggle with precarious housing, love for the arts, overcoming trauma, and fierce selflessness. The document...ary strives to show that there is much more to people than their socio-economic status. This was a year-long project and I'm very excited that it will finally be screened publically. Its premiere screening will take place at the Durham Region International Film Festival (DRIFF) on Oct. 3rd, where it is also up for the Best Student Film award. You can purchase a $10.00 ticket for the Oct. 3rd programming here. This will give you access to The River and the Livestream Q&A at 4:30 p.m., which I will be attending. You can view this all from home and are able to access The River anytime on Oct. 3rd, 12 p.m. - 12 a.m. If you aren't able to attend this online event, don't worry as the documentary has also been selected to virtually screen at New West Film Fest in New Westminister, B.C. (Oct 16 - 18), and Yes! Let's Make A Movie Film Festival in Montreal, Quebec (Nov. 28).

With the COVID-19 shutdown, the River suspended its work back in March. We are slowly getting things rolling again, and just want everyone to know we are still living... in the meantime, here's some past work - from Leonard Hill
