A Friday Reflection... Last night I ended my day with an initial appointment that took a little over 3 hours. Most of my initials are around 1.5 hours but my promise to my patients is to create a space where they feel heard, cared for, and not rushed. What saddens me is that when she was leaving she apologized for 'taking up so much of my time'. I hear this a lot. I made her retract that statement as my time was hers for taking up. I created space for her to share her story a...nd needed to hear it to help her to heal. It's sad to me that we've come to a point where we feel we need to apologize for taking up someone's time (especially a health care provider), for our feelings, or for needing care. I hear this a lot. If you've read this post please take a moment to re-set. You deserve care and you have a right to take up time and space, to experience your feelings, and to human kindness. I'm grateful to be able to provide this level of care and for all the time my patients share with ME.
