I hope this doesn’t happen again. So many restaurants are struggling now, I can only imagine what will happened if they have to close a second time. We all need to do our part...follow proper Covid practices and wear a mask. Keep those restaurants and local businesses open!!

I want to share an experience I had today. Some times on the days I run into Ladner to make the office bank deposit and mail my letters I treat myself to a tun...a wrap at Quiznos. This little franchise is owned by a lovely husband and wife. Every time I have popped in it has only been the two of them running the store. While waiting for your order you can see all the tables that would normally be filled at lunch time with guests now stacked up in a corner with only a couple being able to be used. The pop cooler, chips and cookies see to not as well stocked as before. Today I stopped in and preordered my lunch so I could complete running my errands while it was being prepared. I returned to find out that my order had not even been started. Being a bit frustrated and running out of time I almost cancelled my order to run through a drive through on my way back. I’m glad I didn’t! This lovely lady working behind the counter looking absolutely exhausted begins to say how sorry she was that I had to wait. She continued to tell me how the compressor on her cooler has stopped working as well she just had a bill to pay for the ice machine/soft drink machine. She doesn’t know what she is going to do when her order arrives tomorrow without having a cooler to hold it all. How difficult it has been since Covid. She said she is so anxious and worried she hasn’t been able to eat today. I then was able to share my story about how I feel so sorry for her as I went through the same thing a few months back and in the end having to close my shop. I think the fact that the person on the other side of the counter understood gave her someone to share, to talk about how hard, exhausting and the uncertainty causes such stress and anxiety. This experience brought back so many memories for me about my little shop in Cloverdale. I so miss it every single day but remembering all the anxiety, uncertainty and exhaustion makes my heart break for all of those owners trying to survive these unprecedented times. I couldn’t just leave....I ran into the Save On Foods next to her store and bought her flowers. When I returned she couldn’t thank me enough. She said it made her horrible day just that little bit better knowing I cared how she was feeling and understood what she was going through. My message to everyone is....please be kind and have patience. You never know what is happening in that persons life. So many small businesses are being run only by the owners because they can’t afford to pay staff. They are hanging on by a thread to try and survive. Take a step back and pay attention. It doesn’t have to be a lot to make someone’s day better. These little businesses need to make it to the finish line...to the other side of craziness to normal what ever that means. Please support your local business, they need you! See more

Who doesn’t love to bake with Grandma? Since so many of us are not able to be with our Grandkids or our Grandmas... how fun would it be to video chat bake? Buy one for you and the other one for Grandma. If you both have the same ingredients and recipe to follow it would be a lot of fun to follow along together. Grandpa could even help put the M&M’s on the top or just be there when they come out of the oven to do quality control! Have a hot cocoa party after they come out of the oven.

We are truly honoured to have received this award last night at the Clovie Awards. We received Small Business Excellence in Hospitality! It was such a fun night hosted by Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce at Northview Golf & Country Club. What an amazing event you managed to host even during these crazy times. This award is so bittersweet for us.... All the comments and well wishes we have receive from the community, customers and friends has warmed my heart. ... Not a day goes by that I don’t miss everyone...the everyday regulars we knew by name, the customers who became great friends and part of The Rooster Family song the way. This is what made us a success and I will be forever grateful for that. I was able to fulfill my lifelong dream and make it a success because of all of you. You followed us through our journey while supporting us all the way to the end. I want to give a special thank you to my son Ray for standing beside me every step of the way, cheering me on and being the back of my business. I don’t know what I would have done without him. I also want to thank a very special friend, Colleen. From the moment I said I was going to open my business she was there to help. Any time I asked or needed her she was there! I told her one day that there was never going to be a way to repay her for all she did for me, she said, watching me fulfill my dream was pay back enough You are an amazing friend. Thank you from the bottom of my heart I am still not going to say good bye...just see you later. It’s not the end of The Rustic Rooster! We plan to pop up at a market with everyone’s favorites...cinnamon buns, lemon cranberry scones and cheese biscuits to name some of the few. There is also a strong possibility of a Rooster Cookbook in the near future so stay tuned. As I fight back the tears, I want to say again, thank you so much and I miss you. Please stay safe and healthy sending hugs, Michelle

Four weeks ago today we closed our doors. It’s been really hard and super sad but my heart is so full! All the comments and well wishes for all of the community, customers and friends has warmed my heart. When I think about what we created in 5 1/2 years was absolutely amazing. Not everyone can say they followed there life long dream and made it happen. I didn’t that!! I can also say that I check off all the boxes on my vision and mission statement. I miss everyone....our... every day regulars, the customers that became great friends and part of the Rooster Family, baking your favourite treats everyday, just being a part of your day. Without all of you we would not have been the success we were and for that I will be forever grateful. I don’t want to say good bye..just see you later. I am looking forward to my new chapter with a new journey and I hope our paths cross along the way. It’s not the end of The Rustic Rooster. Maybe we will show up at a Market in the near future with all your favourites and a possibility of a cookbook in the works. Will keep you posted!! Have a fabulous day....hugs Michelle

Where once a coffee shop filled with laughter and smiles was; now lay empty We locked up for the very last time, shed some tears and we are now ready for the next chapter to begin. It has been an amazing 5 years and as much as we’re going to miss this place; we’re going to miss YOU more. One last time, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for following us through this journey and supporting us for all these years - The Rooster and Cloverdale will always be in our hearts.... As this Rooster’s journey comes to an end, please please please remember to support your locally owned small businesses - without you, they won’t survive and right now, they need you more than ever. So before you visit a large corporation, take a minute and decide if what you need can be purchased at one of your local businesses or a small business near you. Until next time - see you around, Cloverdale
