Lamb’s quarters, gone to seed. There are many in our garden, this morning they were covered in a flock of redpolls. It’s lovely to see so many small birds perched on a seemingly precarious plant, but lamb’s quarters stalks are strong. This is probably the most common weed people are familiar with in their garden as a precocious weed, not knowing the incredible flavour of their greens. Similar to spinach, but more dynamic in flavour. Makes some Fantastic saag paneer and spanikopita. The seeds are wonderful too, we grind them up with primrose, yellowdock and amaranth seeds to add into our flour mix. #wildseeds #lambsquarters #weeds #wildculture #eatyourweeds #cocreate #cocultivate

Baby collards popping up in our greenhouse! We transplanted some sorrel, parsley and larger kales from outside as well. It hover down around zero in our greenhouse at times throughout the winter, so all the plants that live in here are able to withstand the chill. #wintergreens #freshwintergreens #greenhouse #collards #kale

End of the season in the collards. Deer love snacking on frost sweetened kale, brusselsprouts, cabbage. They take advantage of the dogs sleeping inside at night these days, coming close in to the house which they never do in the summer when the dogs are out all night. We dug up a few kale plants and transplanted them into our new greenhouse bed off the house, and packed some leaves into the fridge. The rest are for our deer neighbours.
