The Salad Spinners

Happy greens. With a bit of protection greens grow well in this cool fall weather.

Scarlet Nantes Carrots. Sowed May 6. The bed was covered all summer with floating row cover to keep out Carrot Rust Fly. Seems to have worked. Roots are free of maggot damage.

Nautilus (variety) Brussel Sprouts. Started early April. Potted up in early May. Planted out on June 1. Removed tops of plants on September 7 to encourage sprout growth.

Hearty cabbage crop. The green Danish Ballhead cabbage are weighing in around 10 pounds each. This variety has tender juicy leaves ideal for sauerkraut. The red Deadon Cabbage is starting to firm up and will ride out the cold for at least another couple weeks.

Winter greens coming on strong.
