Happy birthday Amina. You’re a special soul.

Our two youngest children live in the grounds where garbage is dumped. Their father is a waste management truck driver. It broke my heart to see the conditions in which they are growing up. Miss.L proudly took my hand to show me her tent but her brother hesitated to go further towards it. Now I understand why these children constantly have a runny nose and why they’re so tiny. I’m very grateful to all our generous hearts that are supporting us to make a little difference in these children’s lives and bringing joy in the 3 hours they spend at Sahara. Their father is very keen that the children stay at Sahara full time. I admire his vision as he knows the children will thrive growing up in a loving, rich, and a prepared environment.

We love when an outing becomes an annual affair. This year again our well wisher, Amina Bhanji is celebrating her birthday tomorrow. She has humbly decided to donate the funds she receives for her birthday to Acts of Love Foundation Canada. Amina also treated our explorers to Pizza Hut for lunch. It was a scorching day but that didn’t stop us from getting dressed for the occasion and venture out in the heat. We just realized Pizza and pop are the favourite items on our choi...ce list. A milestone was celebrated as a gift for Amina’s birthday; our explorer Khushbu managed to read 25 books in a month. Her perseverance is admirable, she would read wherever we went, in the car, at a restaurant, in class and whenever she found a spot to sit beside me, she would bring a book to read. We are very proud of her achievement! All she wants is a watch so that she can be on time to class as she rides a bike along with her siblings. Such a mature young girl for her age. She is our star! We are humbled to be able to provide our explorers with a variety of opportunities to explore their world. Just before I leave for Canada to visit my family after being away for 6 months, two young children, Sohail and Sareena from Canada sponsored an exciting visit to a play place in a mall for their birthdays. As soon as our children walked towards the mall entrance, their body language changed, their feet suddenly got a spring in them, and their eyes widened with curiosit...y as to what they would find on the other side of the glass doors. Our first of many firsts was going up a floor by an escalator. Our teacher patiently escorted one child at a time. On the way down we took an elevator, the children all held each other’s hands in fear of falling. The moment we reached Boomerang Play Place, they couldn’t wait to enter and play. The staff was very kind and polite to our children. We met a doctor who enquired about our work and kindly paid for our lunch. One of the staff, Hiren Chauhan treated our children with ice cream! Along with all the fun we have on our outings, our children learn to interact with other people and show off their good manners! Wow! Another marker to keep in our memory; 9 young explorers went to a theatre for the very first time to watch a movie! It was challenging to sit still for over an hour as we love freedom of movement outdoors on the streets. Our youngest Miss.L fell asleep after gobbling up popcorn and pop. The theatre must have felt like a five star, air conditioned hotel to Miss.L; she had a good snooze. Our sincerest gratitude to one of the kindest hearts we know, Piyush Khare, founder of Happy Faces Vadodara for sponsoring our movie adventure. We also thank Zahra Kassam for sponsoring the popcorn combo for Eid treat, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Today Sahara family showed strength and patience throughout the day. Without a single drop of water our troopers managed to clean and organize the kitchen! The most hardworking hero today was our youngest 5 year old Janvi who continuously scrubbed floors and walls; not a single complaint. Finally, a truck of water was ordered; there was a buzz everywhere, rushing to wash our clothes which were piling up due to water shortage, filling up all large utensils with water so we can shower, brush our teeth and prepare breakfast in the morning. Wish us luck!

Sahara’s youngest explorers always put away their beddings as soon as they wake up. Crisp, chilly mornings doesn’t stop them from waking up early and enjoy the day. They are in a rush to shower, have breakfast and start playing! LEGO blocks and train tracks are our favourite !

Our gratitude to Piyush Khare of Happy Faces Vadodara for inviting us to join his group for a movie at Inox theatre. All precautions were in place in these challenging times. Very impressive. This was the very first time Sahara children went to a theatre to watch a movie. To top it all, the children were served with hot, fresh, buttery popcorn! Our children bagged wonderful memories.
