Fearing the black body by Sabrina Strings is an excellent resource to understand how deeply diet culture is rooted in racism. Podcast episodes to listen to Sabrina: Foodpsych #196 ... Body kindness #119 Also body kindness has an episode with you want to talk about race author Ljeamo oluo episode #65 Comment any other ones you’ve heard that we’re eye opening!! The intersection of racism and fatphobia is so important to discuss. It has been raised a lot lately with the fact that body positivity started as a movement for fat black bodies and has become very white washed. This is an important conversation. @ Edmonton, Alberta See more

After sharing an anti diet post on Instagram stories, it was immediately taken down for violating community guidelines and I have now been locked out of my Instagram account for 24 hours. With no feedback from instagram as to why, when I’ll be allowed back in. The post was not mine and the account who shared it is still able to access there’s.

When you have a bad body image day just know you do not have to do anything to change your body. Changing our body rarely has the desired outcome of having better body image. Body image is something that we work on everyday and fluctuates day to day. When you’re having a bad body day, take a step back: put on something comfortable ... talk to yourself positively repeat 3 things you like about yourself remind yourself that tomorrow will feel a little better take a break from social media meditate/journal perform an activity that has nothing to do with how you look (for example, paint, cuddle an animal, read a book) These are all ways we can help realign when we’re feeling poorly. The answer is not to over exercise or restrict our food intake. Our body is not the problem; no matter how many times society tries to tell us otherwise. Those messages are the problem, and we deserve exist in our bodies comfortably. See more

Yet we are told when the diet fails that we’ve failed. That we didn’t try hard enough. So we try harder and harder. Restrict more, create so many rules around food we can’t even keep them straight anymore. Until we obsess about food all day. And still hate our bodies. No more. No more dieting, no more rules around food, no more feeling like we’re a failure. Because we’re not. Diets should come with warning label this has a 5% chance of working long term, but 1 in 5 o...f you who try it will get an eating disorder #nomorediets #internationalnodietday See more

The body positivity movement was started by fat black women. So if you’re co opting that movement as a white cis straight sized female without acknowledging that, it’s problematic. To be a body positive ally is hugely important and to do that you need to support the most marginalized groups. We live in a society that absolutely will listen to a beautiful size 8 white woman. Because of diet culture, ablesism, racism amongst other things. If you have a platform, use it to ...raise everyone up. Hey it’s awesome to see bodies that look like mine in the media, but shouldn’t everyone get to feel that way? Especially individuals who experience more stigma, and discrimination based on their bodies? Body positivity isn’t about selling your brand as self love, it is trying to create a world with more inclusivity and diversity. So if you are only supporting other straight sized white women it might be time to rethink that. This isn’t to mean you’re cancelled it’s an opportunity to learn more about the body positive movement and help more women feel good. See more

Stressing about the stress which is causing you to gain weight does not do your body any favours. Extreme amounts of stress is bad for us, especially when it’s chronic. Like this unknown timeline for corona. Our bodies are doing the best they can to protect us. For some of us the stress induces weight loss, for others weight gain. Both perfectly normal. The bigger problem is when society at large tells us any weight gain is bad. That piles on more stress. Instead of being... gentle and kind to our bodies during a time of extreme unknowns we punish it. But punishing it with diets and over exercising just adds on more stress. So be kind to yourself right now. And always. You’re not a bad person if you gain weight. Weight gain is a perfectly reasonable response to so many things in our lives. If someone tries to guilt you about it, they’re not a good person to have in your life. Try to set boundaries as best you can with those kinds of people. See more
