Did you know that, statistically speaking, it’s your eldest child who is most likely to grow up professionally qualified, have higher IQs, take on leadership roles, and earn the most money? This, of course, isn’t true all the time, but it is the case the majority of the time. Check out the article to find out why!

Our heart is for our young people and our goal is to positively impact as many as possible. To do this, we need your help! If you are an educator, parent, or just care about youth, and successfully refer us to a NEW school and they book a Value Project Presentation (in person or live online), we will gift you with a $50 Amazon Gift Card and the school will get the presentation for $50! (down from $250)... A donor has graciously come forward with these gift cards to help us reach our youth! We are very grateful and excited with this opportunity! We are offering this for the first 20 presentations booked in the 2020-21 academic year! To be awarded, send us an email at [email protected] letting us know of your reference. The school contact who books us also needs to confirm that you were the reference. Once it’s all set, we’ll send you your gift card! In this video, Executive Director Derek Scott connects with Sarah Ruggier, a Vancouver-based clinical counsellor who specializes in children, adults, and families. Research shows us that strengths-based education is one the most powerful tools we have in impacting young people. But what is it? Strengths-based education is a mindset, a method of communication, and a practice. It affects how we see people, how we speak to them, and how we treat them. Unlike a deficit model of education, which fixates on problems and tends to label people as problems to be solved, a Strengths-Based approach:... > Affirms and values everyone equally and focuses on what a person can do rather than what they cannot do. > Recognizes that what we focuse on (strengths or weaknesses) will become a student’s reality, and that it is important to focus on strengths and frame weaknesses as areas of growth. >Acknowledges that people do experience challenges and have unique limitations that require caring support and attention. It is important to us at Signal Hill that our education model be Strengths-Based. We see students not as at risk but rather at potential for greatness. #valueprojectpresentations #strengthsbasededucation #resiliency

When presenting to young people, the means (delivery style) is just as important as the message (educational content). Here's a quick snapshot: We design all our presentations and workshops to be story-filled, humorous, and strengths-based in language. Share or tag a friend who needs to hear this!

Have you seen the #socialdilemma on Netflix? It’s a super interesting documentary on the workings of the major social media companies. Admittedly, they don’t come out of the film unscarred. It’s important to recognize the power of such for-profit companies and how they are employing strategies to acquire and hold on to consumers. At the same time, it’s important to recognize that social media platforms are places of tremendous good as well. There are healthy and unhealthy pa...rts to it responsible usage starts with knowing which is which. In our talk *Refresh,* we equip teens in grades 8-10 to use social media responsibly and with the goal of valuing every person. We also show them how social media use affects their brain development, how they can create healthy limits in their usage, and how to recognize what social media is appropriate for (and what it’s not). #valueprojectpresentations #socialmedia #boundaries

Our mission at Signal Hill is to equip young people to become thriving influencers who value every person. One of our main goals is to help young people see themselves as influencers. We use the word *influencer* for a number of reasons. While its similar in meaning to leader, a lot of people don’t identify or see themselves as leaders due to the word’s tendency to take on formal connotations (of course, being a leader is so much more than this). There’s no way, however, to... opt out of seeing ourselves as influencers. Everyone has influence on others and the world around them, for better or for worse, and whether we like it or not. Take, for instance, the fact that the average human produces approximately 350,000 Joules per hour. This is roughly equal to a 100 Watt lightbulb, and, theoretically, more than enough to power your own smartphone. By literally doing nothing you are heating up the room you are sitting in. Now that’s a trivial example. What if instead we think about influence in terms of our social interactions? Our presence, words, actions, expressions, and choices all effect those around us. At Signal Hill, we help young people ask the question: how can I use my influence to help others, to build positive community, and to make the world a better place? They’re already influencers the key is helping them to see it. #valueprojectpresentations #thrivinginfluencers #leadership
