Script change approved! Racetrack has a line in Newsies where he mentions a box of cigars and says, They was Coronas! Well, that line sure hits different in the middle of this pandemic! As actors, we can do the work in rehearsal to understand the context of a line, and get the giggles out if it sounds funny, but our audience would hear it for the first time during the performance. What to do? In training dancers, singers, and actors at The SPACE, we want to train performe...rs who have respect for their art and their craft, and that means respecting creators, too. Without playwrights, lyricists, and composers, we wouldn’t have a show! Happy to work with Music Theatre International and Disney on this to keep the intention of the line without interrupting the scene. Now, instead of hearing that line and being jolted into 2020 and our current reality, our audience can stay with us in the story of 1899. Our Food Drive Class Challenge winners usually celebrate with a movie night and a pizza party. We couldn’t get together in person, so we had a Zoom party instead!

We did it! Our Virtual Musical Theatre Camp performance showcase of excerpts from Beauty And The Beast was this afternoon, and we had friends and family tune in to watch online. Back in the studio for Virtual Musical Theatre Camp this week, and still making improvements and adjustments to get everything ready for September classes. Public health guidelines recommend removing soft fabrics like curtains and wall coverings that may trap respiratory droplets, and we have removed the curtains from our front lobby and the back Vocal Studio. Everyone likes a little privacy while theyre in class, so today the doors between our Dance Studio and Vocal Studio got a little love with an opaque window treatment that lets the light in while ensuring that no one else can see inside. We cant wait to have you back in our new and improved COVID ready studio!

Were getting ready to start classes again in September, and were excited to see you back! If youre new to The SPACE, we want you to have a chance to meet our staff and feel comfortable at the studio before you start classes. Congratulations to our Dance Campers on their performance showcase today! We had a great week together, and learned ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, and hip hop. Some of our Dance Campers took their very first dance classes ever this week! Heres a peek at our jazz combo: its to All That Jazz from Chicago. This was a technically more demanding piece in an unfamiliar style, but they really stepped up to the challenge of trying something new. So proud of you all!

Back in the studio for $2 Tuesday! So thankful to have dancers back with us, and were taking steps to make sure we all stay safe as more of our dancers come back to class. We have increased our cleaning schedule - the studio was thoroughly cleaned after Dance Camp before anyone came in for $2 Tuesday classes, and high touch areas were wiped down and sanitized between classes. Then the studio got another full cleaning after $2 Tuesday classes so were all ready for our Dance Campers again tomorrow! See you in class!

Were back in the studio with Dance Camp this week! Our dancers maintain social distancing in their marked boxes in the studio, and we have hula hoops to take to the park for lunch. We had a great first day with contemporary, ballet, jazz, and tap today. Looking forward to hip hop tomorrow, and to seeing more of you back in the studio for $2 Tuesday classes! We now have $2 Tuesday classes running in studio and online; email [email protected] for class links and passwords to join us on Zoom, or ask for a health screening form to join us in the studio!

All ready for In Studio Dance Camp on Monday! Super excited to welcome dancers back into the studio. Were starting small with just a few dancers in for camp next week, but were ready for $2 Tuesdays and fall classes, too. Each dancer will have a 6x6 square marked out for them. Youll see blue on the right and green on the left, to help make things easier for our younger dancers who arent clear on rights and lefts yet. Each spot also has a red X in the centre, so you can easily find the centre of your spot, and a water bottle box so you can grab a drink when you need one and still stay 6 away from other dancers in the room. Weve also left room for our staff to use the front of the studio and see the whole room, so dont worry about being hidden at the back!
